I've been testing with a heavily influence build similar to the Japanese builds of the deck.
Been loving it so far, and have made some minor adjustments to my local meta.
It has been performing well just about every week outside of a bit of bad luck.
This is the current list I have been running in my area. It has done well, especially with the lingering souls in the list. I only recently put the TNN back into the deck. I have been considering trying out Patriot blade, but just feel that it would not have the card advantage to play the long game. Between running so much removal and various counterspells, I feel like you have too many dead cards against several match ups. Anyone have more experience with the patriot blade deck that could explain what they feel is the reason to play the deck would be appreciated. I know it does well on MTGO quite often.
I have been playing this deck since pretty much day one once modern was announced and testing with caw blade before I settled on this. Also glad people are running mana leak over remand since its just better for this deck.
I know the sideboard looks odd but that is just because I tuned it to my local meta. Although I would highly suggest Engineered Explosives over annul in the affinity match up. I was able to lay one down for 0 on the draw and blew up three permanents on turn two which one me the game. I have also found that a singleton Elspeth to be stronger than banelayer due to the fact that it doesn't just die to removal and represents a constant threat.
This is the new deck that I have seen preform very well online and I love this deck
It's a very good deck and is still a working progress but seems to me the UW deck to play at the moment.
What about this and Semblance anvil... the question is does the anvil keep making a discount on creatures after you play the Griff from exile?
It should work because semblance anvil says card types that share a type as the exiled card cost 2 less. It doesn't say anything about the card having to be imprinted still just that it share a type as the card you chose to exile.
I believe it would work. Fun little idea you have there.
So sad...I just tried to look up Mystical Teachings decks in the Modern Grand Prix two weeks back and there wasn't a single one.
Yeah I've been following teachings since before worlds when it was the 1 control deck with a positive win percentage and talked about being the best control deck in modern. Now there has been a huge swing away from it with the new aggro loam and jund listings that are good against control.
We need to find new and better main deck answers to the new meta that has developed and show that Teachings isnt gone and that it's still a viable tier 1 deck.
This is my list I've been working on. Just trying baneslayers main to add some threats not sure if they're gonna stay yet.
Has anyone considered or tested magister sphinx as a possible win con?
With Teferi it is flashed in to put them to ten at EOT then you swing for 5 with the insurance that they can't play spells. Plus if its an open board teferi and one Creeping Tar Pit added to this wins the game on the spot.
I know its the mana cost is expenisve but it sounded like a possibility worth looking into and I haven't built the deck yet nor had anyone to test this idea either.
I have been play testing a new build a lot and it feels really good.
A little bit of advice would be nice.
The deck has a great match up against zoo variants, and is decent in control matches as well. Haven't been able to test it against combo yet though.
A Fae Blade deck similar to this won back in August so I wanted to test it out.
Here is a link to the original deck: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/deck.asp?deck_id=896751
I made a few changes and here is my current build.
Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions below, or even your own deck lists.
triskelion is a 4/4 that can hit my opponent for 2-3 each turn without attacking. It is also immune to path to exile and can be reoccurred with academy ruins. Trinket mages just block or look for certain things along the way. Honestly I really don't like them since I don't have to run chalice of the void. I'll probably change them to something else, except I need to at least get a bit of value on the artifacts that I run for thirst for knowledge.
Oh I see, still risky in my opinion to run just one main creature that does most of your damage. How has playing it and testing it gone so far?
I like the spread with gifts ungiven, but what is your win condition?
You don't seem to be able to deal a lot of damage since the only creatures that you run with any power are vendilion clique and batterskull.
The shackles and trinket mages are the only other creatures potentially and that's not factoring any removal your opponents are running.
I would run 4 ghost quarter main as you can always target one of your own lands and grab an untapped basic so it won't hurt you any. Academy ruins is a must in the deck, to recur your artifacts. Crucible of worlds combos with ghost quarter to beat 12 post. Tolaria west is another option for your gifts package, and noxious revival works pretty well in gifts packages also.
Yeah the ghost quarter package seems nice with crucible of worlds and gifts ungiven.
The hero's could b swapped out for the gifts ungiven and replace think twice with some 1 ofs to spread out the threats. The only problem is changing up the deck accordingly to make use of the cards in the graveyard from gifts but I don't run many artifacts to really make use of academy ruins and I don't want to completely change the deck to throw this into the deck.
if UW you can easily fit ghost quarter into the main deck. Crucible can be searched using gifts. It isn't a perfect solution though. ensnaring bridge is decent too.
Thanks very much all the advice everyone.
I have wanted to try out rune snag over mana leak I just don't own any at the moment and haven't taken the time to test it yet.
The hero of bladehole seems to be 50/50 in some of the matches I've played and the gifts ungiven I'm hesitant to use it cuz I can't make use of the cards going to the graveyard.
My deck so far has tested well against zoo so I'm just trying to adjust the sb for control and combo match ups as well as see what I'm doing with the hero of bladeholds and the 1 batterskull.
Vapor snag over Mana Leak mabe?
I dunno if Mana Tithe is any good.
Batterskull is not only bad without SFM, it's EXTRA bad as a 1 of without SFM.
I don't believe that vapor snag does enough for me. I only slows down my opponent momentarily.
Mana tithe might be worth testing out though, especially against the aggro decks, altho i think that timely reinforcements and wrath of god will most likely be enough.
Since Modern is a new format and I just started playing magic in 2009 there is a lot of cards I don't know and interactions that I will not realize so any ideas and help is appreciated. No I don't want to build Caw Blade because I honestly don't like playing the deck and this version is more fun for me to play.
Been loving it so far, and have made some minor adjustments to my local meta.
