I just bought into Den Protector for a price I'm not proud of paying.

Hard to get hold of in Australia and it seems like all copies under $10 get bought quickly.

This has that Courser of Kruphix / Goblin Rabblemaster type feel to it where the price of buying the box isn't worth it anymore so people become willing to pay up to $20 just to get hold of it.

The difference being there are a TON of playables in Dragons of Tarkir. There is a reason the set has held value and "surprised" many when it increased from its rather low beginning estimate.

That reason on why they don't use the cameras is ridiculous. It's a resource that should be utilized.

Have to keep the playing field fair. /s

For such a supposedly terrible set, it sure has a lot of high priced cards. The Magic secondary market is so unstable these days I just have no idea when I should buy cards I want anymore.
No kidding. There's nothing in this set that strikes me as money. It screams casual trash, but I guess I underestimated the position of Standard right now and how janky goofy cards would actually see play. Based on previous sets in previous environments this thing looks like a turd sandwich. But clearly it's not being tossed aside like I thought it would.

Most everyone I talked to were going on about how good the set is. 4/4 flying for 4 with a relevant ability? How is that casual trash? Everything in Magic is slowing down. Here in a couple years I imagine a 5-6 mana planeswalker will be about the norm. Look at the board wipe. We went from non-conditional board wipe at 4 mana to conditional at 6. single target removal is improving in both power and diversity. When you take into consideration that magic is evolving and that this is effectively a first set of a 6 month standard of course cards are going to hold value. A lot of my friends and I have gotten off our Khans/Fate stuff because we know that it will rotate before Dragons will. Its in a spot where this set could be very valuable in a year when Khans/Fate reforged doesnt keep going. Add on to the fact that Modern Masters 2015 is coming and its a perfect storm for a ton of value in this set to keep that way.

Dont forget this set is also the first set of the standard after Khans/Fate rotate. This set is quite good and the immediate impact this weekend shows it is.

I think you're underestimating NPH's uncommons. It has a bunch that are played across multiple formats:
    ...

... and not forgetting Gitaxian Probe at common, either (at last check, over $2 a copy, thanks to Jeskai Ascendancy decks).

This is false. Probe has been over two dollars for some time now. http://www.mtgstocks.com/cards/229

It is not due to Jeskai.

Vendilion clique by far. Just going by full retail pile A vastly exceeds pile B ($80 vs. $54.) Not to mention it's a modern staple versus some cards that while playable in modern are being traded up and don't equal the value of the card in question (clique.) You could throw in another keranos and I'd still take clique.

Yeah, I was planning on surprising him with a fourth fountain since I have extras.

The card I have been targeting is nighthowler. I was finding them everywhere in 4 for a dollar bins. and with delve returning, I could see it making some gains in a graveyard based deck.

Nighthowler wants cards in the graveyard, and delve removes cards from the graveyard. How is there any synergy between them?

The return of delve brings cards with it that put cards in the graveyard that directly help nighthowler. Cards that have delve wont help him, but the cards that assist delve will.

I think he is referring to the card in Theros that fits the Nightveil Specter profile - gets a lot better on rotation, and is poised to move from near-bulk to Standard staple (and the associated price bump associated).

Ah, gotcha. been a long day and I was sitting here confused lol. Anyways, I did make a killing off nightveil's. It was my main spec target and had about 40-50 of them when they jumped to 10 bucks. dumped them all. I would say the only card that would get an immediate bump was courser, and at 10 bucks (well it was for a short minute) thats a heck of jump.

I can't seem to find Theros' Nightveil Specter tough, it had been easy lately but KTK's mechanics don't seem to play specially nice with anything in Theros that isn't already >$5.

    Nightveil was gatecrash, not theros...

People keep posting Khans - Warlords - Dragons. I think we are going to see a Khans - Dragons - Warlords with the block setup close to that of Shards setup (Overcoming something evil).

I'm not sure where the hate for the recent movies come from. I feel the ASM series is many levels above the original trilogy. The cast is better, the plot is better, the storyline is better. I dont get the hate for the quieter moments or fight scenes. What do people want? Some people ***** that there are too many explosions, non-stop action, no storyline (Michael Bay) and others ***** that there is too much story. I felt this movie had a really good balance of them. Garfield makes a much better Spiderman and I feel this series is worlds better.

I'm confused about the shaman. The exiled cards that you can play.. do you have to pay mana for them? Is this just Chandra's 0 ability except you have to get a 1/3 into the red zone and you get 2 cards instead of one? Is this really that good?

Yes, it's like Chandra's 0. Yes, it's really that good. In a deck with a low curve you'll often be able to play both cards.

In a deck that has a low curve you are generally trying to be aggro and casting things on your second main phase isnt really ideal on turn 4. Thats the best case scenario. I know of many decks that will look at him and not really care.

On the other hand, since the release of RTR & sister expansions, Foundry and Stomping grounds has always been a couple of bucks more expensive than the other shocklands. Has it ever been not?

Foundry has always been one of, if not, the cheapest shockland to buy/trade. Only with the recent trend of R/W decks has it come up to the other shocklands levels.
