Alright so this deck started last night at the pre-release draft. I went undefeated with it and took first place. Now I'm trying to see if I can make the concept work anywhere outside of draft.
The idea is to create several very big and nasty creatures fairly fast without much warning. Spectral flight works great as a +2/+2 buff and giving my creatures a way past the enemy blockers.
The main problem is red burn is not as strong as it used to be. So I tend to fizzle if my opponent starts getting bigger creatures out. So I need to speed things up. I'm considering going more of an aggro approach with more werewolves like red like Reckless Weif and Kruin Outlaw.
I didn't notice you had edited the deck, sorry. The drowning catacombs are for the Leyline's and Surgicals in the sideboard. I'm running the Leylines in case someone has an Eldrazi Titan or other graveyard shuffle, and the surgical extraction is for a combo deck built around very specific cards. Getting someone's Deciever Exicarch or Splinter Twin with a mill then extracting it is very satisfying.
I would say loose the guard gomazoa's for condenms the instant removal is awesome. then you have a good defence aginst aggro decks and the lifegain doesnt matter since your concentrating on miling them anyways
edit: I would also drop a tezzes gambit for another day of judgement as well
I would probably drop an archive trap for an extra day of judgement if I needed too, but so far I've had no problems finding one, my issues has been the "But I might need it later" syndrome
Tezz's gambit has great synergy with Gideon and Jace due to the proliferate and drawing two cards is a huge plus. It's won me games by letting me get Jace's Ultimate off a turn faster.
Updated deck list in the format provided. Thanks again for that. I've noticed a couple things as I've been play testing.
1. I need to make my mana curve more curve like. I've found myself playing a land and passing a turn a bit too much.
2. Jaces Ultimate Ability is a surprisingly workable win con. If I work the rest of the game right my opponent should be below 20 cards in his library.
3. Gideon is a pain in the ass for anything involving creatures.
4. People do not know the rules about countering a harrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So based on that and thoughts on the current deck list what are some options/ideas? I've debated moving the tumble magnets MB. I removed the Gideon's law keepers because against most decks they matter, they're usually dead. (I'm looking at you goblins and vampires ) Thoughts appreciated!
Updated deck list. I've cleaned out my sideboard and put more options in it. I also worked on a bit more of a Mana "Curve" instead of a Mana Mesa. I'm debating just putting the tumble magnets main board instead of Gideon's Law Keeper.
Results so far have been decent but the decks I've played against are clearly not that competitive. I had one where a guy raged when I told him Mana Leaking a Harrow did not bring his land back.
First, you only need 2 Traumatize (if you even run it at all). Second, you need to have more spot removal (Dismember, Condemn, Oust, etc.). Third, cut the sphinx (too slow) & MB the Gideon and the WoO.
My main concern is that you have a lot of 4+cc cards. It'll be too slow and inconsistent in the current configuration.
I have found myself sitting with a hedron crab and Gideon's Lawkeeper on the field while drawing nothing but land till I hit the magic 5 and my deck opens up to me. I guess I need to work on the CMC curve.
Thanks for the suggestions I'll post an updated deck list shortly
Hey everybody! I've been playing magic for about a year now, and considering the amount of times I've looked at this forum for rule's help I'm honestly surprised I didn't register sooner
I play a little bit of standard but I mostly play EDH/Commander. Thanks for the welcome!
Hey guys! I've been really excited to see some of the new M12 cards. I know its a long shot but I've been trying to make a working mill based deck. This is what I have for a deck list so far:
Any suggestions? I plan on possibly getting some Celestial collanades to help with creature based decks. I might drop the Leyline of the Void's anyhow since Surgical Extraction can be used to exile an Eldrazi Titan before its graveyard effect triggers.
If I can find a game on Lackey I've added those 2 cards in I want to play with it a couple times before I update the master decklist.
2 Delver of Secrets
