Making Geist of Saint Traft and Boros Reckoner die to a white spell, that should totally be black, seems good.

Actually this is a very white effect, since its for all players.

so how does this kind of deck beat junk rites or naya biltz, outside of drawing specific cards in specific order. it seems like fun to play but competitively speaking, it feels lacking. it doesn't interact with thragtusk restoangel from opponent's. doesn't have much consistency in stabilizing against fast decks. I can see the match up being better against control deck if you can curve and draw well. I don't understand the appeal of this deck or what it does better than jund midrange. I am open to convincing.

So far NAYA blitz has been a pretty good match up for me. I mean there is only so much you can do against someone putting their hand on table turn 2, but I run a large removal package to nail their board.

    mainboard:
    3x Tragic Slip
    3x Dreadbore
    3x Mizzium Mortars
    2x Blasphemous Act
    3x Terminus

Unfortunately that last flavor post blew my theory out of the water.

I had originally hoped for enemy slices.

Azorious/Boros (uphold the law and justice)

Orzhov/Rakdos (Vast riches and power leads to decadence and carnal desires).

Selsyna/Gruul (The only allied pair. The call of the wild tempered by the will of nature)

Golgari/Dimir (The guilds of the undercity. Adept at moving unseen and unoticed, these guilds could make a powerful, if untrusting alliance.)

Izzet/Simic (Both sides of progress, these two represent progress.)

Slaughter games is not a card I'd bring into a Junk reanimator match up as there is no one key card that, when removed, makes their deck not function, they're just as likely to hard cast an Angel of Serenity or an Obzedat. You're better off with Purify The Grave to stop the current play.

Now combo human Reanimator is a maybe.... hitting the Angel of Glory's Rise I think goes a long way to crippling that deck.

We've been in flux here with one shop closing and another opening but none of them are dead.

If anything your store probably needs to diversify. In addition to FNM we've got EDH league on Monday, miniatures on Tuesday/thursday and then FNM.

I like the reanimation as it provides another threat vector that can be a complete blow out, and the rites can just generally be useful to have. I also like the psychological game.

Game 1 in a practice match against Naya Blitz I brought out a turn 5 Angel of Serenity to clear the board and win the game. My opponent proceeded to board in three ground seals while I boarded out the reanimator sweet for Rolling Temblors, both next games he cast Ground Seal off of a turn 2 Burning Tree chain, so he effectively weakened himself to gain nothing.

I don't think this deck has enough coverage for people to really know what we're playing yet, and faking them out with the reanimator package goes a long way towards tilting your opponent's sideboard and game play plan. You don't even have to use the rites, just cast a faithless and pitch an angel or a rites and suddenly everyone is like "ermergerd I need 5 copies of rest in peace!"

Not to mention turn 4 angel nut draws to just get blow outs out of no where.

Terastodon destroys lands just as easy as Sylvan Primordeal. If a reanimator/bounce-deck gets their hands on one you're screwed as well.
Sure, Sylvan Primordeal is in some ways a bit better, considering the scaleability and the ramp, but Terastodon is just as dangerous when it comes to abused land destruction. This goes for Acidic Slime as well. A kicked Rite of Replication on Acidic Slime might not destroy as much as a Sylvan Primordeal, but you're still dead if you're on the recieving end.

But, here's the thing: There are a LOT of cards that a reanimator deck can abuse from their opponents graveyards, or cards a bounce deck with clones can abuse. Sylvan Primordeal is just one among many.
The thing about Primeval Titan is that any deck could use it's effect, and the effect was so friggin' good (most non-green deck got an amazing boost from it) that it warped the format around it. For a non-green reanimator-deck, Sylvan Primordeal could just as well have been a Terastodon, and that card isn't banned last time I checked.
A Sylvan Primordeal can indeed be abused by your opponents (or you), but chances are that they just as easily could pick another card that could further their gameplan in some way. And while Sylvan Primordeal gets the job done a bit faster than a Terastodon or Acidic Slime in the Abusable Land Destruction department, it's not like the card couldn't be replaced with something else and have the combo still be deadly.

Also, if you're having problems with people reanimating/cloning/bouncing/whatever your or someone else's Sylvan Primordeal, there is a very simple solution for this:
    Improve and adapt your deck.
The problem is very seldom specific cards, it's the meta and people's inability to adapt. Sure, those 5 fatties you like might be fun to play, but if you refuse to throw them out in favor of 3 graveyard hate cards and 2 anti-ETB-cards, it's your own fault really. You might even have to stop playing it if people abuse it too much from your own deck and you lack cards to handle that.

You have to have a good board control to use terrastadon to lock a game. Your opponents are going to be getting 3/3 elephants for each permanent you destroy, where as Sylvan doesn't have any downsides.

So far it seems UG/x has become the most powerful color combination. Riku, Animar, Jenara, and Mimeoplasm dominate our play group. Let me tell you, if I'm playing like a Spike to win, then I go straight for SP. I run Animar, and my deck is based around blinking/rebuying creatures for little to no cost, so its not exactly hard for me abuse Sylvan to a stupid degree.

Most games tend to end when I get a Warstorm surge out then blink SP to wipe the board/lands/and finish thinning out my deck. SP is truly a game ender card, to the point where its turning people off to EDH in general. While Prime-time did ramp and enable plays, it didn't 6 for 1 the board by wiping permanents and fetching lands.

So Eye Of The Storm, for those who don't know, is the original Teferi, Mage of Zalfier lock.

Its effects in a multiplayer game can be rather stupid. The thing is, a friend of mine is now running this card in his Riku deck. He played it, then on his next turn, he played Mind's Desire. The game quickly descended into a pile of cards, especially when he dropped Hive Mind.

I have two questions. One, does anyone else have suggestions for jankery that can make judges rage quit from eye of the storm? (A level 1 judge is in our play group, he wasn't there that night.)

And two, would a deck like this be acceptable in most play groups? I'm tempted to ask him if I can borrow it to take it to SCG Open Nashville for the infinite commander side events. Or is that too trolling?

In most aggro decks there are cards that just do more. Most of the time he's good for 4 damage on turn 1.

My Champion of the Parish usually gets in for 6 or more, and has more synergy in the deck.

Also it just comes down to the fact that it gives your opponent a choice. If they have a answer for a 4/3 creature they'll let it stay then get rid of it. If they don't they take the 4 damage and move on.

It's a fine card, it has a role to fill in decks like Legacy/Modern burn.... but for the most part it's just not good enough to replace the current one drop creatures.

  • posted a message on Why do so many people forget that Thalia has first strike?
I guess its just that some cards have a second mode of play that seems insignificant compared to the first.

For example, Thalia is played for her tax ability, not for her combat potential, that doesn't mean she can't swing though. Especially funny when Rancored.

I am testing out ground seal instead of RiP, plays off of BTE and draws. Effects everything but Humaninators angel rez.

It'll force them to hard cast the angel, which buys you time. I've been trying it too, sadly haven't found to many reanimator opponents Frown

Ultimately Junk's Ramp and Humanrite's ability to hardcast will make Ground Seal little more then a delay tactic, but hopefully that's all we need.

What about Curse of stalked prey as a 2 of some where in the 75? Can play off of BTE and make sure all our swarmers get better late game

It's pretty winm0ar. Our creatures already kill extremely fast, so its not really going to change the clock any. It doesn't help the match up's weakness either. Which is sputtering out under the pressure of lifegain creatures + sweepers.

This probably needs to go developing, where you'll need to write a primer.

Anywho, part of me wants to say that this deck still dies to the same hate that decks like Naya blitz and R/x aggro do. Namely, removal, sweepers, and lifgain fatties.

What does it gain from that loss of speed? Well... counter magic I guess. Could play a bit of the tempo game. That doesn't really help your Dryad getting Azorious charmed though. Not to mention your Nivmagus elemental being speared/removed. Then they two for one AND time walked you.

I just can't see this gaining much ground in the current meta. It doesn't have the tempo of a delver deck, or the speed of an aggro deck, so I can't help but feel that midrange will walk all over it in most cases. Not to mention how badly a Thalia hurts the deck.
