I'm hoping to improve this deck, and possibly play it at my local shop's FNMs. I'm still pretty new to MTG, so feel free to criticize away. Also keep in mind that I'm currently trying to work with what I have. I don't have the money to drop $150 on a few rares to super buff my deck. So here's what I've got so far;
I'm calling it spell damage right now because I don't know the right name for a deck like this, so if someone could let me know that would be great. It's based around using spells and monster abilities to leach life off my opponent, and give it to me. Lifelink and Sanguine Hands are the real staples of the deck. It will primarily be used for FDM and other such get togethers.
Rune-Scarred Demon is in there as a heavy hitter to do some actual damage when I get him out, as well as get one of my staples out of my deck if I need them. But he ended up being a liability in my last game I played, because the deck has no counters to permanents, and he got MCed.
Got Phyrexian Obliterator today, how good is it? Could I build a deck around it? Kinda new to Magic myself :3 Also, what are these boxes people are talking about?
I'm not sure where exactly this should go, but this seemed like the best place. Let me preface my question by saying I'm extremely new to Magic; I started roughly a week ago. In the short amount of time I've been playing, I've more or less attached myself to black cards; I love the way they look, play, and feel.
That being said, I'd like to construct a mono black deck that can play reasonably well against other decks I would play against in my local shop's FNM. I assume most of the people going will be casual players.
I'm completely lost as to where I should start, and a lot of the stuff I've been trying to read through here is confusing me more than helping. If someone could point me towards a beginner's compendium of sorts, that would also be infinitely helpful.
Again, sorry if this is in the wrong place or out of line to be asking.
Hello everyone! I figured this would be a good place to make my first post.
I'm new to MTG, as well as MTGS. I started about a week ago with a few friends of mine looking for a hobby. We all played card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh as children, and thought Magic looked like a fun game to play, even as young adults, so we all picked up a decent amount of cards and are trying to wade through the vast world of it all. I've always been one for using whatever resources are at hand to get a handle on whatever I do as fast as I can, and we stumbled upon MTGS pretty fast. You guys seems to know anything and everything about this game, so I feel this will be a good place to make our Magic go-to.
I look forward to learning about this fun game, and meeting new friends through it, and this forum. Cheers!
