Have you seen the posts around here as of late? The lull is starting to get to people. I'll take this confirmation over the Jace vs Vraska speculation any day.
We should have like one spoiler a day for the entire year. They produce enough new cards to do it.
Kamigawa is a solid no. Additionally, Lorwyn was stated that it was unlikely to ever come back. As you mentioned, theros is the closing chapter of the Innistrad-Ravnica-Theros multicolor siesta. So Alara is out. Only Dominaria and Zendikar are possible and it's been reiterated over and over that Dominaria would be no time soon. Next block will either be Khanar or Zendikar.
Very interesting. I can't think of a compelling reason that those would show up like that as gatherer searches apart from "those are the actual names of the cards that are already in the back end somehow".
However, there's a few questions that remain.
Why would these five be the gods that show up in the next set? These are the gods whose temples we got this set, but that's not a good reason why it'd be those. Also, art we've seen seems to imply that Xenagoas doesn't ascend until Journey.
Still, good find.
I worked for a company one time when they were redesigning their website. I worked in the graphic design department so I worked pretty closely with them even though I didn't work on the website (I did letterheads, powerpoint templates, etc). Google will pick up on your website as soon as you allow it to. So for the split second they tested something related to it, google picked up on it. So yeah, these could confirm the names.
I can't speak for other artists, but I'm given a lot of freedom when it comes to my work. A lot. As an example, the recent Gargantua alternate art was essentially "Give us a big Phyrexian monster, thanks."
That freedom is a double edged sword. On one hand it gives me the opportunity to do stuff like Nirkana Revenant, Priests of Norn or Suture Priest. On the other, if my vision doesn't work from the get go, it puts both me and the AD in a precarious spot, where we're trying to fix issues with the piece without breaking anything else in the process. That's almost like trying to fix a plane in the air without crashing it.
The illo for the VS deck was my vision. I chose the composition, perspective, colour palette and so on. The passive, subdued presentation was all me. Vraska went through several revisions that changed her proportions and stance but those were tweaks, not sweeping changes. As an example, at one point she had visible iris and was looking at Jace, but Creative thought it was too big of a departure from how she looks in the original version. On the whole, while there were concerns voiced over how the piece would work in terms of packaging, I feel it was well received.
In hindsight, seeing the reaction, it might have been better to just ask me for a new approach. I wouldn't mind that. JJ did ask me to come up with something new on several occasions and it always served the piece in question well. I trust him to make the right calls. But, shocking as it might be, he's a human too. So is the rest of Creative. If you're willing to give me the benefit of the doubt based on that, they deserve it too.
Thanks for your hard work and insight in the creative process of making these.
Personally, I am a big fan of your artwork and haven't had any issues with them until now. Vraska, I actually have no problems with other than the fact that there's a bit too much light being cast on her. She seems like the type of character, slithering through Golgari sewers, that would fully embrace darkness. So being cast in a generous portion of light seems... out of place for her.
Jace, similarly, I have very little problem with. My only suggestion is that he seems to have no neck. I would have tilted his head up slightly.
Apparently, Kirin also became lorded.
Derp, and so did Gods.
Amrou Seekers is close enough.
So, if I use Grappling Hook to "have target creature block it this turn if able", then it forces all of their creatures to block Tromokratis?
I'm mostly just trying to better understand Tromokratis' ability.

Yes. It was a printing error and too late to fix it.
This isn't reddit...
Don't forget Nighthowler.
