I've added and removed storm a few times, I like drafting and playing it but it's horrible to play against so no good since most of my cubing is 2-player. Now that we might get 4 players more regularly it's a bit better since it's only 1 game in 3 that might be low on interaction. I found the vintage cube videos where the storm deck didn't get tendrils or brain freeze to be more interesting so I'm testing it out with just empty the warrens and mind's desier as win-cons which makes it more of a big mana cheat deck. There artifacts look like they could reinforce this idea.
Fredo: I had a look at your list and I see your running Jeskai Ascendancy, it's also works in this pseudo-storm type deck, how have you been finding it and where does it see play?
Hi wtwlf, been away from cubing for most of the year so your thread and preview articles were a great help catching up, thanks.
Just noticed you're running Coiling Oracle, I loved this card when I first got into magic, it was Lorwyn standard but my mate gave me a heap of spares which were mostly Ravnica. Was great running it in my cube in the early days before it got pushed out. How's it playing for you these days? I run Trygon Predator instead since it's also been a staple for years.
While I'm here, I noticed that Thalia's Lancers got pushed out a while back, card not live up to the theory of being a reliable walker tutor?
I went deep on an enchantress theme for a bit, one of the amusing win cons was Heliod, God of the Sun combined with Serra's Sanctum and a few enchantments already kicking about. It was GWb with Argothian Enchantress, Enchantress's Presence, Eidolon of Blossoms, Sigil of the Empty Throne (this one felt terrible), Opalescence, enchantment-based ramp in green, enchantment-based removal in white, Master of the Feast, Herald of Torment and Doomwake Giant in black. The the full cycle of Theros gods (was already running Thassa and Purphoros) and the cycle of Honden, oh and Form of the Dragon.
It was very daft but actually won a draft when the other decks were fair and no aggro. Honden of Infinite Rage becomes pretty scary once you have a 2nd or 3rd shrine in play. It was just hard to interact with all the enchantments and removal while they drew cards. A big issue is how linear it is, and if you miss on some of the win-cons your deck is unplayable as I found out once. Pretty fun deck to play though.
I've been tempted to try this in cube but never found a cut for it. First time I saw the card it was being used to repeatedly reanimate a Kagemaro, First to Suffer and wrath everyone in EDH. The other day i saw a MTGO cube video where LSV and Gaby Spartz used it to loop Siege-Gang Commander after generating infinite mana in a "not-really" storm deck, it was their only win-con after not seeing any storm card except Mind's Desire. I'm tempted to try it again after seeing it do some funny/sweet stuff but it probably isn't good enough in general. Kinda becomes a black EtB abuser when combined with a sac outlet which I have a lot of due to supporting aristocrats.
I'm curious but is thi's issue relayed to your pauper cube you have linked in your signature? Maybe I'm being blind but I don't see another list, I have a pauper cube but it's a bit out of date, the suggestion of boosting aggro etc is good but (as you'll probably know) it's much harder to do in pauper than regular cube.
I have the opposite issue with my pauper cube in that control is hard to drat since the finishers are weaker and there aren't the same card advantages engines available at common.
We can give more specific feedback if we know what cube this is in reference to.
Thanks
It may well be really good and I might also test it as the galleon, but I can't see it being the best land in the cube. I guess it's a lot more playable than other top tier lands as, for example, library is nuts but without card draw it can be just a colourless land if top decked late. Foothold's fine early since most decks can afford the colourless land and is a value engine late.
Conqueror's Foothold is one I'm going to try like this. I've ran a custom cycle of lands before but they felt cheaty then didn't need them. This land feels a hit more balanced by being colourless and very grindy. The black one could also work but the rest are insane. I already run cradle and maze so don't need better illegitimate versions.
Love Thalia, can totally ruin your opponent's day and the 2 power first strike for a single white is great.
I larped for about 10 years while st uni and a few years after, went to fewer events cause I moved farther north in Scotland which added 3 hrs travel to any national event meaning 7 - 12 hrs driving, then kids came along which put an end to it for now, I also fenced for my uni for 3 years fell out of the sport when all the others who fought sabre graduated leaving me no one to practice with.
Thanks for the clarification, I searched your thread and the forum a few ways and never turned up anything helpful, didn't think to look at your thread info spoilers, not seen that specific one before (obviously).
Did some searches but couldn't find and answer. How does a "sight draft" work? I'm presuming it's pick 1 burn 1 but couldn't see a definite card it was linking to like glimpse.
Great write-up, thanks muchly for all the hard work.
Also I somehow managed to miss that the scarab God can target any graveyard. I had assumed it was only your own, I was going to run it before and definitely am now.
Thanks guys, so just what I was expecting, kinda an insurance policy. I guess it might do a bit more this time round now I have hangarback, ballista and a few vehicles.
What are people generally recurring with the Ruins? I've had it in and out over the years and it never seems to do much. Maybe my artifacts don't die often enough?
I was considering testing the Gate since I support aristocrats quite heavily and that might give them a long game option. Might make the Gift a bit easier too? Probably just a bit to cute though.

I was thinking the exact same thing regarding Compulsive Research.
