One of the biggest reasons to play Legacy is dual lands. So you can have three coloured decks without shocking yourself out of the game. It would also be competitive enough to take on 2 colour decks but not super broken that you can't die to wasteland.

The 4 mana casting cost is too high to be effective. There is already really strong hate cards against storm and other decks at like 2 Mana.

  • posted a message on Is legacy gaining popularity right now?
The problem with Legacy is people like me are killing the format. Play legacy and get super passionate. Then own all 40 dual lands... then stop playing for like 3 years lol.

It sure would suck to have your only other source for your secondary color Extirpated or Surgical Extraction-ed.

lol like that has ever happened. It doesn't even defeat fetches with basics.

  • posted a message on Time to fix this...sign this petition to revise the Reserved List and get Legacy Masters printed
This is not a binding and legal contract? This is america sir, and in america "you can always sue somebody" - south park.

This whole petition for a reprint is stupid.

A better approach is a petition against a reprint. If zero people sign such a petition then wizards have a green light to reprint duals. Then they have something to fall back on when they do get sued.

  • posted a message on Would you rather have foil staples or beta power
Foil staples all the way. I actually have all the foil staples and most people just wouldn't understand the process you go through to acquire all these shiny cards.

I acquire shiny staples slowly because I look for good deals. It was actually a pretty long process. I can tell you stories of how I acquire each card and people I met along the way.

It is much easier to convince yourself to buy power. You just need to make 9 mistakes. Foil Legacy is hard, good luck convincing yourself to buy 40 foil fetch lands and that wouldn't even be the end of it, not by a long shot.

Porphyry Nodes AKA white Drop of Honey

1 mana hard to kill enchantment that can basically kill any cheap value creature. It is NOT a targeted ability so you can basically kill anything regardless of Hexproof, Shroud, or Protection.

  • posted a message on Local "Tournament" Mono Black Discard
Mono black discard have been tried multiple times and the biggest weakness is the lack of removal.

Discard is extremely ineffective at the end game while resolved threats become the deciding factor. A 1st turn Delver of Secrets can out pace Rack effects.

  • posted a message on medallions?
Medallions are not a good way to accelerate. Their 1 mana discount is not significant enough waste another card into.

Unless you are playing 2+ cards per turn, it is often much better to just have a cheaper accelerator such as Deathrite Shaman or Heritage Druid.

  • posted a message on New rules...
To be perfectly fair, the old rules were just as abusive but just not in a combo sort of way.

All the ridiculous things people sideboard. Karakas from Show and Tell, Jace Beleren, Phantasmal Image, and extra Jittes.

The new rules although it enables a combo or two. It is much more friendly for the general masses who just want to play some powerful permanents. No longer would you have to race to the jace or try to sideboard more copies of that Legendary permanent.

WoTC isn't going to stop printing Legendary stuff and eventually there will be like 7 iterations of a planeswalker and everyone got at least 1 version in their deck and the whole Legend rule thing grows out of control.

I think you should consider modern before Legacy.

I don't think it is wise to redesign the deck. From a brief peak, I can say more than 90% of the deck needs to be changed because Legacy is a completely different format with much higher power levels.

My best recommendations is try looking at Modern. Most of the deck is Modern playable and the power curve for that format is much lower.

  • posted a message on I lost a bet; need help playing Modern UR Storm in Legacy
I believe he is restricted by the Modern banlist at a Legacy tournament.

In which case I would have to tell you not to play any type of combo deck. Modern combo decks are fragile as Belcher with the speed of a non-combo deck like RUG Delver. You would get absolutely wrecked by Force of Will and Wasteland not to mention by other combo decks if you don't have any disruption in the form of your own Force of Wills.

If I were you, I would try Jund. You have access to pretty much everything except Blood Braid Elf and Wasteland. You can still sideboard stuff like Choke and Duress. The damage from the shock might be troublesome but its not as awful as UR Storm.

  • posted a message on [SCD] "Shadow of Doubt" and "Trickbind"
Shadow does have the benefit of drawing a card but is that worth it? You are literally holding it against lands for the most part. Maybe a Stoneforge Mystic but is that what your deck really needs to do with 2 mana? It can be a lot of value but the play itself is actually not that strong.

We all could be over analyzing this. It could be an anomaly.

Its not like it was a random number generator. There are decisions involved and people were responsible for making these decisions. They deserve to get flamed for so they don't do it ever again.

It would be one thing if they were showing a .500 player just because they like him, but he won. And he won two weeks ago. They are going to show someone who is playing a tier 1 deck to consistent high finishes.

No, that's not good philosophy. People do care about who wins the tournament but you shouldn't show a deck repeatedly just because its more likely to win. Like sports, people like to see their home team. Their own magic decks. Deathblade is like 15% of the meta, while its only getting stale for the rest of the audience.

People were not thinking "oh, they followed the deck that took the tournament". People were angry and made this thread before the finals even happened. They were thinking "why the hell am I watching this for the 7th time". I personally would like to see the lands.dec. I mean how many chances do you get to see that in the top 8. Even if they commentators thought the matchup was boring and loopsided, there are people who never seen Lands.dec and there are people who like to see a deck completely demolish one another.
