The End of an Era

Scars Innistrad standard tempered steel. i started playing it later in the format so i didnt get to play with Steel overseer and ornithopter and i did pretty poorly with the deck in standard. i got to play it in a very small local standard even of like 3 people last week it was standard. After that i have made it into vintage bc i really like artifact lands and i must say it is the most fun deck ive ever played and the only deck i have really put a lot into making every thing into complete playsets and what not. Also trading a 45$ thundermaw Hellkite for 2 20$ mox opals was so worth it still the best trade ive ever done

However, I do feel it prudent to point out: Daxos already enables itself via its ability, so I'm not sure why it's necessary to "enable" it in the manner of Sen Triplets. Is there some question there?[/color]

Daxos says if the spell is red then i can tap an island for blue and filter it to be red and cast it like Mycosynth lattice. if im not in red i tap the island it becomes red then becomes colorless bc it is out of color which is why i would need celestial dawn

EDIT i might be overlooking his ability. My understanding is it doesn't work and im also thinking of the gatecrash buy a box promo card that does the same thing but no color fixing which would definitely need Celestial Dawn to work

    Daxos of Meletis

Celestial Dawn places a restriction which states that you may spend nonwhite mana only as though it were colorless mana. Per the "can't beats can" Golden Rule of Magic, this trumps Daxos's permission to spend mana as though it were any color to cast the card exiled with his ability.

I know that celestial dawn enables Sen Triplets so i wasn't sure if it would enable Daxos. I know that if im esper and i hit a red player and its a colored spell i can't cast it bc i can't make red. would dawn make the spell white or is it still red?

  • posted a message on New to vintage few questions on the meta of the format
Very much new to the format. Ive been a pretty avid edh guy until this point with no real interest in standard or modern. ive always been more interested in the ability to use any card instead of whatever slightly playable garbage is in standard. The only 60 card deck i have is tempered steel which has been every format but Vintage, though ban list aside is really anything that isnt edh.

My first question is about how viable are aggro based decks? I love my tempered steel and all the formats its been through. All thats left is vintage and edh(not likely going to happen) and id like to try making it stronger for a vintage enviorment but at its core it will always be an aggro deck. I dont play control at all im all about beating face and when that doesnt work i'll do infinite combos into what ever finishes the game the quickest.

That being said my second question would be to what extent would control type decks dominate in this format? also how does the format really break down as far as deck types?

I know that money is definitely a big part to getting into this format or for that matter really any format but about how imoprtant is say power nine to this format? I can see that moxen and lotus help speed things up and count for affinity in my case but are they super necessary? Would a budget deck with no power nine fair all right against the rest of the format?

Lastly i just want to know more about the format why it should be played over legacy or modern as far as eternal formats are concerned. why people play it, what seperates it from everything else.

Group hug i rarely see my stuff benefit me as people kill everything i play bc it speeds up all the wrong players and stupid **** happens. Anvil of bogardan turned into unburial rites Iona, shield of emeria turn 4 locking 2 decks out of red

Dismiss into dream and mycosynth lattice makes getting rid of permanents pretty easy and is the main reason i would build Sydri
also combos like gilded lotus and freed from the real which is pretty much how memnarch wins and for that matter he should be included for such combos. the deck is esper and can easily tutor combo peices especially where the deck is artifact based

    Quote from Remillo
Easiest way to explain this one:
AEtherflame Wall treats other creatures as though they didn't have Shadow. Because creatures with Shadow can only block other creatures with Shadow, this oddity occurs: When seeing what it can block, it says "Do these creatures have Shadow?" to which it always answers "No, no they don't." Then it also looks at itself and says "Oh, wait, I have Shadow, so I can't block them, because they don't."

At least, I think that's how it works. Anyone higher up on the food chain want to confirm/dissent?

That is really stupid but it makes sense. Heartwood dryad has a similiar ability but prentends to have shadow which would be why there is no note saying if it had shadow it can't block

So on magiccards.info it says this:
9/25/2006: If AEtherflame Wall gains shadow, it won't be able to block any creatures (not even those with shadow).

Why can it now not black at all?

You dont need every card in a set. you could try to collect all the rares and maybe try to collect all the uncommons as well and commons that are worth while. Just because they print ]a new grizzly bear doesnt mean you need to keep it in a binder that being said a binder would work all right and also its not worth the space in binder to keep all your commons and uncommons that are not worth while atleast and you can just keep those cards in a box weather it be a tool box, fat pack, booster box, holiday box, shoe box, gallon ziplock bag whatever incase you need them for later

My god i saw this in your sig and had to say i couldnt agree more. I think that this honestly more true every time i check trade stuff or even decklists online. card prices are going up and not really going down much. the slightest change in anything and cards spike or drop
