Just have tested the Gearhulk during local daily event. The Hulk was predictably bad. Seriously, it won't help You when You're under, and You don't need it while You're on top.
I've managed to install it 3 times (!!!) and every time I was sad that it's not a plain Wrath.
Doubleblock of Thalia 2.0 with a splicer's golem can block tarmo. Or 2xGolems. A single Wall Of Resurgence can do the same. Problem is that the Gearhulk will kill our board presence for shure.
And what about silver-bulleting? Please name our bad MUs that will be healed via the Gearhulk.
And if that doesn't work, just Path one of your own creatures, and drop the Gearhulk on turn 4.
I'd prefer to drop a Wrath on turn 3 in such circumstances.
I think Copter is not a card we want. Just recall how often we do play with an empty hand. While playing from a topdeck we don't want to loot cards, we want to draw.
Speaking of the Gearhulk, I think it's to cute. 5 mana, quite poor stats for it's cost. It's not able to block a 'basic' 5/6 tarmo for example. Also, while playing against folks/elves , it's almost certain that You will be death enough before 5th man or 5th vial counter.
If thats the meta, sure. But you're in a pickle in a Merfolk, Zooicide, Affinity, GBx, Eldrazi, Hatebears, Elves, Dredge, Kiki-chord and Abzan Company meta. Any card can be mainboardable if it would fit the meta.
According to the MTGGoldfish we have near 49.5%(!) of MUps where an enemy will suffer a lot from the Kambal. Decks agaist which he may be quite bad, that You have noticed( Affinity, Folks, Elves ,Drazies) have near 17% of current offline meta. And the rest are crap-that-not-even-a-deck. So from the one hand we have almost 50% of meta where the Kambal's impact varies from a quite good to totaly devastating, and on the other hand we have 17% of MUps that are quite bad before SB anyway.
That simple calculations are telling me, that rather asking why we should pick him, we should ask WHY NOT?!
It comes to this question: what MB card would I/we replace in favour of Kambal? Looking at the meta as presented by Modernnexus,I wouldn't replace a single MB card.
Speaking of BW non -Drazi list, we have about 30 MB cards that are solid base of the Deck. All others are meta-dependant choices.
Guys, I keep testing 2x Swords in main, and want to say that its absolutely incredible. UR and BW can deal almost every problem we may have. Seriously, try it. I'll be glad to see any expirience you have with swords.
I bet that the games you're talking was good in themselves. There is NO bad games where a Hulk may be better than a Wrath.
I'm speaking about really tough MU's that is uneasy to handle without sideboard cards.
You're 100% right.
I've managed to install it 3 times (!!!) and every time I was sad that it's not a plain Wrath.
It seems quite usefull.
