We have 2 local card stores that are about 15-20 minutes from where I live and my friend lives. The prices tend to be much higher than ebay and much higher than going to the tcgplayer store. They had 8 cabal therapy at $10 and I bought 3. So now I have most of the cards needed for a Nic Fit type of deck. This is if I don't play something like Liliana. I was wanting to make a deck that could be competitive but not being the very top deck. A lot of the time I try to avoid making the most popular deck. They showed the deck results and there was 1 tournament where a Nic Fit deck got 4th places out of about 140 to 150 players. That seems pretty good.
Wow, you got a really good deal, I just picked up my last one for $17 and thought I was getting a deal. I think you made a good choice with the deck, I may be a little biased because I enjoy playing it an abnormal amount though.
I was just thinking I could make a Nic Fit deck. I wasn't sure if It would be a good deck to make. It seems like a good deck for someone making a deck on a budget. I'm not going use to any dual lands or cabal therapy because that card now is $20. I would just something like Ravnica duals instead. I have most of the cards to make that deck lying around. I would only need to spend about $40 to make that deck. I have 2 Pernicious Deed, 3 Divining Top, 2 Deathrite Shaman, 3 Abrupt Decay and 1 Phyrexian Tower.
It is really good for a budget, because it wants more basics than most legacy decks and doesn't want wastelands either. It's not tier 1 by any means but it's fairly competitive and really fun to pilot, I've been testing the BUG version lately and have to say it's possibly the most fun I've had in Legacy. It's a really difficult deck to play as well though, at least that's what I found. If you're going to make a budget version I'd recommend proxying up the non budget version first and getting some matches in and getting an idea of what you're going to be comfortable with cutting for your budget. Therapy's ridiculously expensive right now but I feel like the Veteran explorer/therapy interaction is one of the best parts of the deck when I'm playing it, personally I wouldn't want to cut it from the deck, but there are other sac outlets out there if you're not willing to buy them.
Jund is pretty far out of my price range and I'm not a big fan of Deathrite Shaman, the rest of the decks you've all suggest I've looked at in the past, and have felt for the most part either underwhelmed or simply did not enjoy playtesting them.
Have you tried out Death and Taxes yet? It's the only other deck I can think of that sounds close to what you're looking for. I think the deck's pushing 900-1000 completely built if you get decent prices, which is really expensive but sadly nowadays that's the cost of most legacy manabases. Price aside it looks really fun to play. You've probably already considered it, just thought I'd throw it out there just in case though.
I'd check out Deadguy Ale and Jund. Aggro Loam and W/B Stoneblade have control elements, and card advantage in Confidant and Mystic (+ Lingering Souls & Bitterblossom for Stoneblade) but might not have enough threats for you.
Really agree with Jund, sounds exactly like what they're looking for. Has so many ways to generate card advantage between BBE, Bob, Hymn and punishing fire. Has a lot of control elements while still being aggro.
It's used in Elves as a sideboard card. After the BoM lots of Elves cards have jumped.
I'd get that, but the card has gone from 5-7 range to 25-30 on the sites I buy from since I priced it for my 4th for explorer pod, I don't think that was even 3 weeks ago and BoM was back in November. I'd understand if it was a slow creep since november, or a spike right after the event. I just don't get what changed that made demand increase 400%-500% in the past few weeks.
The problem I was having was with cards like Jitte. If I wanted to use Jitte many of decks end up running white and Stoneforge Mystic. I'm don't want to right spend $25 on each Stoneforge mystic. The easiest deck I could make out of the cards I have lying around is Red Deck Wins. I would just need to buy a playset of Goblin Guides and bunch of other cheaper red cards. It would cost me about $40 or $50 to make that deck with the cards I already have. I wasn't sure how good of a deck it would be compared to the more expensive legacy decks out there.
I like a lot of people have collected old card that I could sell but would rather not. I have 1 polluted delta, 1 flooded strand and 5 out of 10 dual lands but would rather not sell them. I have a 1 show and tell lying around I was thinking I should sell and I could get a few cards that way. I could have made my Affinity deck for modern but the legend rule changed things so Mox Opal is now at least a 30 card. I'm not going to spend $120 on a playset of Mox Opals so I decided that I would make my Affinity deck a Legacy Deck. I could purchase 4 Chrome Moxes and that would be much cheaper. I'm trying to think of a 2nd deck I could make with the cards I have lying around. I have 3 Jitte's, 3 Divining Top, 4 Chain Lightning, 2 Glimpse of Nature and 2 Pernicious Deed.
That makes sense, I'm the same way with a lot of my old cards too. What are the 5 duals that you have?
The change of font plus the addition of the holostamp seem to indicate that the Chinese fakes (which now can even pass stuff like the UV-Light test) have reached a level where Wizards feel threatened to the point were they had to take action.
Now the interesting question is what happens to older cards, like the ones on the Reserve List?
I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone's successfully made fakes that have the same print ring pattern as all the older cards.
I think it's because so many people are picking up UWR delver in legacy right now. I think it's been undervalued since it rotated from standard as well, I mean, D&T, Esper, UWR Delver, Affinity, Maverick, Junk, and Bant all run it. There may be some speculation going on, but I think the price increase is mostly people realizing it's real value.
That's almost definitely never gonna happen. Why would they do that and kill off a chunk of their revenue? WotC make a lot more if I need to get 4 DRS in paper and 4 in digital than they do if I can just buy 4 DRS in paper and scan a code. Plus for it to make sense, each code would have to be unique, which would hit the issue of trading. I open a DRS in paper, scan the code then trade it to you. You go to scan it into your MTGO and it doesn't work because I've already used it.
And those are just top of my head issues.
Yeah I know something like it is never likely to happen, but still I know a considerable amount of people that don't play on modo just because they don't want to buy two seperate collections. Wizards would get more money out of me for tournament entry fees than I ever spend online right now. Also, if the card had a unique code they could set it up so it gets traded into the new owner's account when they scan it. Still just a pipe dream though.
I've seen it questioned in the past in this thread, but I've yet to really come to a conclusion on this Rishadan Port nonsense.
For some context, I started building Death and Taxes last August and I believe the price was approaching something like 65-70 dollars. Now, some places are pushing 70-80.
I'm literally so close to finishing the deck too. I only need 2 Rishadan Port, 3 Wasteland, and 3 Karakas, but those 8 cards are nearly going to kill me in terms of their price tags. I really want to get into the legacy scene, but I feel like I can't because I'm missing the vital parts of this deck.
What I don't understand is why Port has gone up so drastically. TNN is basically wrecking/racing creature decks right now, and DnT/Goblins/Lands are the only legacy decks that play Port. Does anyone think that with the shift in the meta, this land will go back down? I really don't want to spend so much money on the last 2 ports I need just to finish the playset.
I kind of feel like most of the people that play those 3 decks play them regardless of their current positioning, I don't think port will drop all that much but you never know, I guess there's probably a lot of new people to DnT that might drop the deck once it starts doing worse.
Alright, thanks for the info. I'll probably try someone a little more well known. might not get as much money for them but at least I know I'm not going to get scammed.
Recently traded most of my Modo cards for tickets and I'm looking to sell them, found these guys in a google search but I'm a little weary because I've never heard of them. I'd trade to Datixer which is who I usually deal with but I haven't seen them online for a couple days. Also tried MTGOtraders but they're only offering $.90 for tickets right now and with that price plus the no gifting I can't really take that loss.
Looking for anyone who has dealt with mtgotickets.com or even other trustworthy buyers?

It'd be awesome to see a lands style deck in modern, but I'm wondering if Exploration would be too good in scapeshift.
