except with no powerful control, and no powerful combo decks zoo doesn't have a bad matchup in the format. The only bad matchup for splintertwin would be some sort of discard based deck which would strait up lose to zoo. There is only so much a sideboard can do. What am I supposed to do run 25 removal spells in my deck and sideboard in 15 counterspells when I go against a non-zoo opponent. That doesn't leave me room for specific counterspells.

Control needs to be unbanned and powerful fast combo must exist to keep aggro in check. As much as I hate decks that don't interact this is just something that makes sense.

I'd actually like to see what chrome mox would do to the format. not only for control, but for other aggro decks that are a little too slow at the moment. I doubt affinity would use it, some zoo might use it (but could possibly lose consistency doing so), and I'm not sure about combo, but devoting 2 cards in an opening hand to 1 more mana a turn sooner might not be worth it.

If it would only help the decks that are currently a little bit too slow then why not?

and that no matter how many bannings of blue cards we have, it always will be the dominant color, unless other colors gain more important abilities.

I think the tricky part with other colours getting more important abilities is making more important abilities that blue can't splash for and abuse better than a deck that isn't in blue.

there's a legacy version of maverick that splashes blue, I think it was just a one of rhox war monk, and rafiq though. They're mostly in there for zenith to find. A splash into blue would probably help the deck out a fair amount.

Nothing pisses off the guy playing the $2k blue deck more than losing to something that "isn't even a real deck."

Haha, I love when people react to burn that way. I don't play it myself, but I know a guy who hates legacy because of the prices. He brings burn when the local shop runs legacy just to annoy people with ridiculous expensive decks.

I watched a guy playing R/U/g, late in the game, opponent (playing U/W humans) is swinging for the game with 1 card in hand. Guy playing R/U/g drops Snappy, brings back a Blue Sun that was countered earlier, cast the Blue suns leaving 2 mana open, draws into an incinerate, clears the board and has card advantage and went on to win the game.

That's an 8 mana play against a deck that hasn't posted results. Goyf or kotr would have most likely survived that play.

No one is saying it isn't an awesome card, but it's only as good as the cards you draw and get into your graveyard. If you don't draw the right cards to deal with your opponents strategy early enough it's not as useful. On the other hand if you do draw into those cards it's incredible. Snapcaster is kind of like an answer rather than a creature that has to be answered. How good it is in this format is completely dependant on how well the rest of the deck it's in competes against the rest of the meta.

I've only seen it so far in decks that need to draw in to the right cards to put up a good fight and are otherwise too slow. I think decks that use it very well are coming, but as far as it being broken in modern I haven't seen it yet. Can you share the best list you've seen? I'd really like to try it out.

Snapcaster is the perfect creature for blue because it's more like a spell than a creature. The thing I like about it is, it gets to be a better play as the game goes on longer, It's an awesome creature, but if you argue that it's better because it does something when it comes into play, someone can just as easily argue that goyf and bob do something when they are in play. I mean if you play it for a path, it's a cmc3 2/1, it took out another creature, but the 2/1 body isn't that much of a threat, especially on turn 3, also Bob and Goyf are useful plays at least a turn earlier.

Snapcaster is really awesome, but it would seem silly to me to say it's the best creature in the format because the creature part of it is negligible. It's an extra spell where needed.

I personally hate playing against dredge, but it adds diversity to the format and there are a fair amount of people out there that would be sad to see it go.

Even if they didn't have to ruin dredge to make it legal it wouldn't be worth it. It's a 200 dollar card not legal in legacy, if it were legal it would probably cost more. That's just too much for one card, there are already too many people missing out on this format because of cost.

If snapcaster is going to be as popular as a lot of people are expecting, wondering if zoo could get away with running a 1 of bojuka bog? It could help against other zoo, random reanimator, and snapcaster based decks despite being pretty much a dead card otherwise.

Honestly slipknot is the only one backing up his opinions with evidence. Everyone else just seems to be theory-crafting or acting like decks that haven't shown numbers (not even in the daily matches) are great.

yeah, but until the meta is fully established with several tournaments under it's belt people will be doing this. It's a very awkward time in the format, with entire decks banned since the last notable tournament, it's hard to tell if decks will pop up that just simply had a weak game against the banned decks. With that said, to say a deck is playable or unplayable without testing or results is a stretch. I believe slipknot has done a fair amount of testing, so his info is usually pretty reliable.

How is affinity without ravager? Is it a must for the deck? I wanna try affinity but I don't want to drop 80 dollars for a playset of ravagers.

If you add a clock to a control deck then your just running a tempo-aggro kinda like faeries was in standard.

To combat the meta control needs to find something degenerate to do like other decks. Some combo, or some sort of disruptive action that other decks cannot come back from and it can happen no later than turn 5. P.Chapin had a grixis control that used mana rocks and chrome mox to power out cruel ultimatums fast enough to actually matter. Again this leads to a familiar problem.

A lot of people are trying snapcaster out on modo, most of the decks I've played against that were running it though have been really bad. A couple seemed like they were pretty decent though. As good as they were though it seemed like they had to work very hard for wins. The high end aggro decks sometimes get hands that just completely roll over other decks, I have yet to play against a control deck that gets as definitive of wins as zoo or affinity does.

I completely agree that control right now is missing some punch, even when it stabilizes and gets to late game it doesn't seem to be able to do anything impressive. Hoping the pros can come up with something a little more solid.

I want to test a version of this soon, I'm building it for legacy anyway so I figure why not try it. Right off looking at it I feel like it almost has to play more midrange to have a decent game against zoo, but without much for disruption a slow aggro deck kinda folds to combo. What are people using for against twin and storm with this deck? I know there's hatebears but they're pretty much useless against zoo if they're in md.

They probably didn't want to speculate on the format and end up being wrong. I know if I spent most of my time writing articles on other things, I wouldn't have the time to have a good opinion on a new format as big as modern, not a good enough opinion to have thousands of people read at least.

Honestly, this forum seems to be almost entirely made up of people arguing with each other. If you have an opinion one way or another, no matter how much you have to back it up someone's going to flame on you for it. It's not just slipknot, it just seems to be the way people communicate in this thread.

Modern is going to be a fun format and needs time to shape, but no matter how well it shapes up there's still going to be people unhappy with it. Relax and at least let a few big tournaments go by before arguing about what's doesn't work and what needs to be done about the format.
