Hmm, I bought my playset for a dollar years ago. I can't really decide if I want to keep them or not. If I can get 30+ dollars worth of other cards for them I'm thinking it might be worth it to trade them.

So basically it`s just speculation driving up the price and it isn`t really seeing any play? I was thinking this but just wanted to see if anyone out there has seen otherwise.

Disrupting shoal Couldn't help but notice that it's up to around 9 dollars right now, are a lot of people using this now? I remember seeing it in a few lists in Phili, the only one that shot out to me was Infect though, and that's losing blazing shoal. I'm guessing a lot of people are thinking it's going to be a big card seeming how it went from junk rare to a 9 dollar card in such little time. I'm just curious about it, I tried it in merfolk and it didn't seem that spectacular to me.

Wondering what everyone else's thoughts are on this card? I'm thinking it will start to see more use once some control decks come up, but is it really good enough to be the second most expensive counter to buy in the format? I honestly think most people are just thinking it's the closest thing to force of will that the format has so they will have to have it.

Have you considered goblin guide? It's no nacatl, but it's fast.

Building this for a fun casual deck to take to local tournaments. It's a pretty casual meta so I think I'll have a lot more fun playing this over Tier 1 netdecks. It's basically an old extended zoo deck with a few changes.

That's what I'm starting with, it's loaded with a lot of my favorite staples that I never get to play with. Even being 5 colours it's a fairly cheap manabase to buy. I mean probably the average price for one dual land, for the entire base. The only expensive card in it is noble hierarch, the rest are reasonable. I'm bored of taking merfolk to every legacy tournament and I just wanted to build an aggro deck that doesn't run all of the same creatures as every other aggro deck, and didn't cost ridiculous amounts of money. I think there's enough disruption/removal/good creatures available to the manabase for it to at least stand a chance against other legacy decks.

Another really cool thing about the deck is it's practically all modern legal. so when modern catches on where I live I'll at least have something that I can take to tournaments.

Does anyone out there have a similar legacy deck that they play? Or have any ideas for this? (other than hope they don't have wastelands or blood moons?)

... lol. Thanks for the heads up about the Legacy format I guess? Can we get back to Modern maybe?

I was just responding to the huge argument in this thread about goyf's impact in legacy. They were using it's presence in legacy as an example to why it's so good in other formats, like modern.

As I stated, I don't see the bans having that much effect on it. Especially since the only thing banned from zoo is Zenith, which doesn't even go into the graveyard. It's definitely an awesome creature, I just don't think it's the be all and end all of creatures in the format.

Goyf's a really good creature and I don't see the bannings having much effect on him. I think it is a little more hyped up than it should be though, to say that it's format warping in legacy is definitely a stretch. I play a decent amount of legacy and I will say that I'd rather see a goyf hit the table against me than stoneforge, clique, or bob. It's a really good card, but it's not as good as it's made out to be.

Look at maverick, it's a legacy Aggro deck in green that usually runs a single Tarmogoyf. It's actually lost it's spot to Scavenging ooze in some maverick lists. If it were the format defining beater that everyone says it is, why isn't it a 4 of in an aggro deck in it's colours? I'll also add that I haven't seen a maverick list that runs mental misstep to protect stoneforge.

  • posted a message on What do people still see in Modern?
If they keep goyf in the format i think should make another creature that is around the same power level as goyf that cant really be played in the same deck. Something like Jotun Grunt only a little more playable. And to the OP I modern seems a lot more fun to me than standard or extended right now. There are a lot of decks that still have yet to surface, also the power level of the format is low enough that you can make a decent rogue deck on your own that at least stands a chance. Have fun doing that in Legacy.

I'd like to see a chronicles/masters edition set every year. It seems to work ok, duals are actually affordable on mtgo. I'm sure it would make for some fun drafts too. I'm guessing that they will stick to reprinting one card here or there in standard and then special products like from the vaults though, unfortunately.

  • posted a message on What was your first traumatizing deck?
when I first started playing there was a very limited cardpool where I lived, I remember every set would come out and sell out, and then there would be a huge gap where nothng was available to buy. I played for years without seeing a real competitive deck, Then my brother put together sligh. Imagine playing in a playgroup for years where sengir vampires and serra angels were your biggest game winners then and running into a deck that consistently puts out turn 5 kills against good decks (and not having a good deck).

After a long break from playing, cephalid breakfast was one of the first decks I played against. I remember thinking a cephalid? really? and then he went off.. haha.. it was awesome.

I'd find room for an oblivion ring. Some other decent auras are moldervine cloak(especially with an enchantress effect in play), griffin guide and elephant guide. If you want to go for a few more tutors, sterling grove is another good one. Green sun's zenith also seems like it would be powerful in commander.

Hi I'm new to these forums, I play mostly legacy and edh. Can anyone point me in the direction of the edh section?
