Back in 2002, there were only the original duals for such Landcycling creatures to snatch up. so, it would be very prudent for players to use them to tutor rather than their 'intended purpose.' so, varied lands came about [like the ones you mentioned] and the return of landcyclers in later sets, land tutors became more useable along side those fetchlands. deck thinning for the win, eh.
*side note- i played from Tempest through Onslaught, quit when Mirrodin came out, poked my head back in for Time Spiral/Coldsnap and again for Dominaria.
Simulacrum- obviously designed to be played in big games, but 6 mana to clone their [insert legend or god] and dupe something of your own, is somewhat reasonable.
Anyways, Crabapple is boring. a 5/5 for 5 isn't worth it even in green, especially when you have that one thing that costs GGG- and there are other vanilla green common stompies like Alpha Tyrannix.
