Also the BW guy, he faced the UR storm guy knowing the lists. If not there is no reason he plays paths on games 2 and 3.
I don't think you're aware of just how common the Splinter Twin conversion plan is.
I would roughly estimate around 60-80% of lists run it as their sideboard. He had a pretty good reason to keep Path in. Not to mention the entire that was round 11 and they've both been at the high tables all day long thing.
Look at daily results, almost every list will be running a Twin conversion sideboard. This is common.
What are you telling me to learn wtf? Why am I supposed to know the decklists are posted somewhere??
And btw luck is a fundamental part of Magic.
Anyways, then the storm player made a mistake by not playing 4 grapeshots MD.
I'm telling you to learn to read because it was already posted 25 minutes before you went off on the "lol I bet he doesn't run many thalia's MD" and "I bet he runs more grapeshot than thalia" bit.
Hell, you even quoted my prior post linking to where the lists were on the site(before they got taken down).
And you do realize you're watching a 10-0 vs 9-0-1 matchup, right? Neither player are sitting there purely on luck.
I'd be ok with "Swag Ale," but I'm not sure how "good" the deck is. Right now it seems to be getting by purely by hybridization of strategies and proper metagaming.
The legend of the lucky guy continues!
He draws thalia game 1 against storm. Wonder how many thalias he runs MD.
And I wonder how can he run thalia in a deck with swords, lingering souls, etc, WTF?!
He has 3. Decklists are on the bottom of page 6 in this thread.
Oh and his opponent happen to not draw grapeshot game1 which is something that easily deals with thalia. I bet he runs more grapeshots main than thalias. Most L-U-C-K-Y day of his life, this sswash guy.
There's only 1 Grapeshot MD in the UR Storm list.
Learn to read before you yell "LUCK LUCK LUCK," thanks.
Any list compiled of the top decks at the Grand Prix yet?
Day one undefeated lists here. Read a few posts below for lists.
Also, the BW Martyr list is running sans Proclamation and still looks really, really weird. Really feels like a Deadguy variant that just has Martyr thrown in as an efficient life gain that can also beat down.
1 Figure/1 Student isn't really uncommon, especially when they're ran in conjunction with Ranger of Eos.
But really, we saw most of the deck post-board which, I'm assuming, he boarded out pretty much everything life-related and went more into deadguy area. -4 Martyr -3/4 Proc -some other stuff +4 Thoughtseize +4 Extraction +3 Mindcensor, etc.
Grunt is still really, really random to me though. It's not that he's necessarily bad just he's random. Though, I guess he's another filter for Squadron Hawk's recycling on a 4/4 body.
The MD isn't something I'd entirely play, but the sideboard planning is pretty legit.
I'm going to go ahead and guess it's more or less deadguy minus Gerrard's Verdict(since it's not legal) that just has an "oops" singleton Martyr/Ascendant to pick up off of Ranger of Eos or something.
Still seems really, really scattered in thought to me though. Also, 4 Jötun Grunt MD seems... Odd.
He's playing an awkward version, though. It's a B/W but it looks really scattered. Wouldn't be surprised though if he sideboarded out of the life plan entirely and moved into a more deadguy ale area, though.
Martyr-Life is a solid deck, but its like tier 1.5/2
I don't know why its prices have inflated so much while storm has gone down. It makes no sense. Maybe there really is (sadly) a ban on the horizon. Or maybe there is just an irrational fear of a ban coming when wizards has no plans to ban
Yeah, I'm confused why it's up so much, too(and why it's stayed that way). Hell, even Flagstones rose $2/each(up to $6/each from $4), and that's a very minor part of the deck.
Though I guess that's part of the allure of the deck. Past the entry fee of Proclamation/Ascendant/Flagstones/Path/RoE/your flavor of planeswalker(which all together really isn't much for a competitive deck) there really isn't much left to the deck. Even at inflated prices it'll only cost around $140~160 for the full deck? That's pretty decent for something that's as strong as it is.
And I doubt there'll be ban. UR Storm feels pretty "fair" right now, I think prices dropped more because of just how much Jund has picked up and how it's perceived as a bad match.
Also, good to know I'm not the only one getting hit with the horrible stream.
The funny thing is that a lot of UR Storm stuff went down in price. Looking around, PiF is back at $4 a piece, Ascension's at $2, etc. etc.
About the only thing that went up are Stem Vent's and those are just at $25 as opposed to 20-22 that they used to be. Well, that and Shivan Reef are permanent $4-5 range.
But yeah, I'm waiting to see if Life does much of anything. I've had that built for a while and got it when everything was cheap, $1.50 Proclamation, $2 Ascendant's, etc. etc.
My real question to burn players is, how bad does chill hurt? I've been thinking of putting a couple of copies into my RUG delver sideboard to combat the new upswing burn has been having, but I'm not sure how good it is against you. I already have the CounterTop sideboard, but I feel chill would just make the matchup even easier.
I honestly don't think it hurts that bad unless two hit. Yeah sure it sucks, but most lists are running 19 land and it's not too uncommon to hit 3-5 land in a game.
Also, played a pretty stock list at SCG Cinci, went 3-0 and then proceeded to immediately pick up 3 losses. Round 1 was Goblins, round 2 was White Stacks(he mulled to 4 on game 3 and game 2 I was just too fast), round 3 was Maverick, he kept a mana-light hand and GSZ'd into a Dryad Arbor, turn 2 put down a Noble Hierarch, turn 3 Aegis of Honor'd, turn 4 laid a Jitte to which I promptly Chain Lightning/Lightning Bolted both his Arbor and his Hierarch, untapped, swung with Goblin Guide, he tapped his only land to StP it and Flame Rift+Fireblast hit him for his last 8.
Round 4 was Stoneblade, game 3 I just got mana flooded(kept an "ok hand" at a mull to 6 on the draw that had 3 land, wasn't exactly expecting to draw into 4 more land). Round 5 was Reanimator, game 1 he turn 2 Iona'd on the play, game 3 he Show and Tell'd an Iona on turn 3 with me having a Macabre in hand. Round 6 was mono-U Counterbalance with Energy Field. Let's just say I went 0-2 and that matchup was really bad.

He only has SoLS maindeck, his SoFI is sideboarded.
Also, the deck certainly isn't lucky. But I'm not sure what I'd call it yet.

Sounds like an ok reason to force draw.
