I do think Mausoleum Secrets is the best card in the set. There's a tons you can do with an instant speed Tutor. Even with 1 creature card in teh graveyard. Sure it gets hosed badly by Rest in Peace but I think it still has potential. I also like Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice. Don't think it's super playable, but it can easily fit into a jeskai control deck in the sideboard or a 1 of.
I thought of the red version earlier, but I found having lootings and bolts weren't really worth it. Since I needed to kill things and don't really need reach. Anything above 3 toughness was a problem.
I thought of using Search, and I think that would be a great addition instead of Strategic Planning. I also like having more Collective Brutalities in the black version just to discard any unneeded copy effects.
The deck is something simple. You dump a Fated Infatuation or Cackling Counterpart in the graveyard then summon Torrential Gearhulk to copy the instant, which then creates another torrential which can copy another copy instant, or something else. Or you can cast the copy directly on a gearhulk, which then leaves a copy which can copy the instant in the graveyard to net you another Gearhulk.
So bunch of 5/6 dudes that gain value from the grave. Now I'm thinking UW, but I can see the argument for UB. What are your thoughts?
Where in some cases, some of those two CMC hard counters are better than Counterspell itself. I do not want Counterspell because Counterspell decks should be thinking of what cards to put in and what to take out rather than auto include 4 Counterspells right off the bat anytime you play a blue control deck.
Wow I actually like this deck with Metamorphic Alteration. It sort of acts like a bad removal, can be lords 9-10, and fetchable with Tallowisp. I'm going to play with 3 in the deck taking out the GoST and Remorseful Clerics. Although I still think the Aether vial version is better due to the speed, I'm just going to still try it out.
EDIT:
Hmmm... I think I'll put it back in with GOST. That way I can copy the 4/4 angel Giest leaves behind with some other creature i won't need. but doesn't seem worth it either...
This deck has been great. Don't think it's tier 1 since it has a lot of trouble dealing with these insane big green dudes and Superfriends, but there's something here. I'm basically playing 8 bolts with Lightning Strike, Shock and Wizard's Lightning. Not always great without an early wizard, but the reach is defiantly there. And switching back and forth from control to aggro has been really fun.
Green feels so freaking pushed right now. After ghalta, steel leaf, there's now gigantosaurus. I'm surprised Tidebinder Mage didn't get reprinted.
Green feels pushed yet is the weakest color still.
No it's not, I think the weakest is Blue. Blue has no way to fight off the vast number of super aggro decks at this point. It certainly helps that white is given tons of sweepers that blue can see some representation. But holy moly When you can get 10-11 power consistently on turn 3, that's on legacy level and a few games i've been Elf - Steel Leaf - Ripjaw - Ghalta or even the new green dino. I don't even know how it's being held in check when you can get lines like that.
I've played with my friends on the kitchen table yesterday, and I am going to cut Time of Ice, it's just too slow and you always want a threat rather than trying to just be cute and tap things down by the time you can cast it. I needed more reach. And Drawing 2 for 2 and having a body with Silvergill is insanely good.
-1 Naban, -2 Time of Ice, -2 Stormcaller
+2 Lightning Strike, +1 Abrade, +2 Silvergill Adept, and +2 Abrade in the side.
As for more thoughts, this deck is really good against midrange creature decks, and decent against RDW. With 7 bolts, and a bunch of tap down stuff it's great. And you can be aggro enough to take down control. I really want to try 3 Nimble Obstructionists in the side, for the control matchup.
