There's the lifelink cat deck that's doing some damage. And probably the best way to take this deck since you can do other things besides just swing in with cheap expendable creatures
I don't think Ajani would be good, since it needs double white. The deck already have a Double Blue in it with Trickster, granted you don't always cast trickster on turn 2, but it feels very greedy to go 3 colors.
I don't know if I would want to stretch it out to 3 colors, but I do like Time of Ice. That looks like the blow out card this deck will need by turn 6. Here's my deck now.
I like your suggestions. I really wanted a one drop to activate the Wizard stuff ASAP. I'm really considering Mistcaller as the 1 drop. but currently I don't know.
Thats just the problem with champion in modern Faithless Looting dose it earlyer cheaper and has a realistic recast cost. If it had flash them maybe, but a turn three 2/1 with card selection as the ability is just to slow. Reflector Mage, bounce a problem and stops them recasting it, vendillion clique can be played instant speed and it fly's and it's 3 power and it acts as targeted discard or card selection for you.
Lastly the other contender for the slot (selkie) is also a merfolk (for adept) has 3 devotion (for master ) and instead for looting you become card nutral or net card gain with me an on the feild.
Lastly champion in stander eternalize ability is relevent in modern is much to expensive and pretty slow. If it cost 5 or 6 to eternalize and had a extra key word it would be a much stronger contender.
I see. Well I've been thinking of the deck and how it'll work in modern and I did like the idea of going into Jeskai. What do you think of this deck?
I didn't like the master of waves trick because it feels like a win more and when I tried it in Merfolk, it needs to untap to win, so it can be a turn bit too slow. I felt I needed it to win on the spot. So I put in the Copy cat combo for a potential turn 4 win. Saheeli also works well with the creatures with copying and gaining more tempo. And both cards work well with deck. Felidar can bounce other creatures as well. That said, I do still think I need more 1 drops. And I should be taking advantage of Snapcaster mages with the 6 bolts, but also at the same time, doesn't seem worth it with so little spells and very little ways to dig and dump. Just brainstorming for now though.
I love the Naban deck in Standard, and when rotation happens I'm guessing the cards are going to be played here. I just have to ask why not Champion of Wits? If Naban is out, it can Faithless Looting twice. Which helps get rid of extra Vials and Nabans when drawn as well as provide some Snapcaster fuel if needed
I'll be lurking in here and when the time comes I'll join in the discussion and brewing.
So the idea is to take Naban, Dean of Iteration and Saheeli Rai to copy value creatures to trigger their ETB effects twice. Of course the creatures themselves are pretty handy and have value already, so they're not completely bad cards that are slotted in for the sake of being slotted in. Eventually you get to tap down guys, return guys, burn them for reach, and do some pretty fun things. I've been playing it on Arena and having tons of fun and success with it. But I do need some help with sideboard options in a heavy Red Meta.
It's much different from control where you sit back and counter things, and isn't as aggro and aggressive as 8 burn spells like Prowess Wizards, it's a nice tempo deck that just annoys people to no end with tons of tap downs, combat tricks, and of course reach with Burn. And Wizard's Retort being Counterspell makes me realize how overpowered Counterspell actually is if it's in Standard.
Of course sadly this deck is probably going to last only 3 more months. When Champion and Saheeli rotates, but who knows. Mirror Image can sort of act like a Saheeli, as for Champion, maybe Snapcaster Mage will get reprinted!!! Or I can always play Silvergill Adept for +2 card draw, but it will be very hard with so little merfolks (Stormcaller can probably change to Mistbinder).
Not sure we're ever getting any dorks in anything but green. If you swapped the colors on that card (a green Merfolk that taps for U) it would be more believable.
I wouldn't mind that either. And make him a Merfolk Wizard.
You honestly shouldn't play too many auras. They're completely dead draws if you dont' have a creature out. 4 is more than enough.
If I were to add Tallowisp package to spirits, I'll go with the 8 lords, then cut the Tallowisps and Geists to 3-2 ratio. Then run 2 Curious Obsession, 1 Weight of Conscience (This single interaction has won me so many games, I believe in it), and 1 Steel of the God Head.
Cutting down on the Selfless Spirits, Remorseful Clerics to 2 and and not playing Nebelghast Herald. Maybe something like this
What does everyone here think of the new two mana lord? Seems good imo
The new lord just pushed this version away forever. There's no reason to play a tallowisp package unless you want to play 1 or 2 tallowisps to fetch out an aura. But 8 lords is just too good.
