This is better than GFTT, even the creatures it misses , it at least interacts with in some way.

And the huge monsters that get cheated into play are more likely to be artifacts than have counters

As for sweet interactions, there's one obvious one:

    Black Lotus

I play errated chaos orb in my cube (1: vindicate), and this is especially stupid with that.
While I think the companion mode is super narrow and will make 95% of decks worse that try to build around it,
I think it's worth testing as a card itself.

This will probably be banned in an eternal format at some point where you can build around it so much easier and really break it.

ehhh, I don't really like this card.

I think you can P1P1 it and build a reasonable deck around it, but so many times it's going to impossible to build around in p2 or p3, or the sacrifices you'll have to make will be too large.

The perfect deck for it, should be very powerful though, so don't hate on anyone who would try to support it.

Edit: I neglected to consider you can just play this card in your deck :D, this card does seem on curve and sweet in a sacrifice strategy. Takes away from the narrowness issue I was bringing up when I first posted this.

This is way worse than Thrunn IMO, since he can survive wraths and combat and is a 4/4. Yeah, this gets to counter a removal spell for value, but that doesn't make up for all the other ways it's worse.

Plus Thrunn is pretty mediocre nowadays. He's on the chopping block for me.

I agree thrun is pretty mediocore nowadays, and am looking to replace him.
This is less of a standalone beater than thrunn and more of a synergy card meant to supplement a strategy.

It plays very well with +1/+1 counters, blink and an instant speed gameplan.

It's not amazing on curve, it's better suited for grindy games, which sadly, vintage cube is not really all about.

There's random sweet interactions like, removing -1/-1 counter from glen elendra, blinking it with restoration angel to give the angel hexproof, moving counters to walking ballista etc. Very hard to quantify this in comparison to thrunn.

It's primary value will come from eating an attacker, or protecting a creature from removal, being a hexproof beater for equipment, but there's all sorts of secondary value that's hard to evaluate.

Thinking more about it, am lower on it.

first instinct was that it was clearly better than thrunn, Which I assume is still played by most, but now I’m not so sure. Really depends on the deck and format.

    tons of situations it’s worse.

    Found this on twitter, https://www.patreon.com/posts/35686808.

Feels almost too good to be true. Definite include for me if real.
Nightmare for control decks, can mess up combat math occasionally and can protect other creatures from spot removal.

I'm interested in testing this because of all the synergies artifact creatures have in cube.

My goal is to one day support a mishras work shop creature deck and every set I'm getting closer, this guy would be amazing with shops.

I mean, in a few turns, he can easily turn into a mini baneslayer angel for only a 3 mana investment.
If you can REALLY slow the game down.. He can take over the game by himself.

4/4 flying, hexproof, first strike, lifelink, , vigilance, deathtouch

is pretty solid for 3 mana :p

By the time you attack with him the first turn, most combinations of 2 keywords are already pretty close to "on curve" for cube.

Takes a bit too long to get great though, so I don't like him outside of a desperation playable or artifact synergies.

I find this card hard to evaluate.
A lot if it's value is in it's modality, which makes it's value harder to quantify.
(X spells by nature are highly modal)

I assume most of the time it will be cycled, but in games where you'd rather hardcast it, just how good can it be?
You'd probably need a fair bit of non-creature ramp and card draw to really chain off... Otherwise it's hard to pass up on a 4/4 flying shark that draws a card for a 6 mana do nothing the turn it comes into play.

From my experience, tokens are much more fragile than creatures because of all the bounce type effects.

I expect this to not be good enough, but tornado sharks are too cool to not give it a test.

Pretty solid sneak attack target and occasionally a great natural order target.

Don’t think it’s amazing, but it’s certainly close and would find a home.

    Worth testing

    God I love this card.

powerful and skill intensive. Skill intensive in drafting, playing and deck building.

think it’s safe to call it a slam.
i can’t wait for the day there’s enough graveyard pay off for self mill To be a thing in cube, this makes it one step closer.

while I think the card is broken, I’m lower on this card than some.

No chance I’d pick it over power.

The extra card in your hand every game is huge, but the card advantage isn’t realized if games are explosive. It should be weaker than most/all cards in your deck, so you likely won’t be casting it much as long as you have alternatives.

The otter lets you Mulligan aggressively though.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see it in mana drain/twist territory. Though when the dust settles , probably slightly lower.

    Could be wrong.

Mega mega bonus points for the alternate mothra art.
    Who doesn't love mothra?

This card looks awesome. I’m surprised there are 25 comments on the moth but crickets in this thread. The combination of abilities seems great - making creatures while having a passive card advantage engine and the option to tutor for utility creatures like Rec Sage... Very cool.

Card seems very good. I think the lack of interest is a symptom of having an abundance of good green planeswalkers at 4/5.

That being said, is it better than both Nissa? original nissa? Garruk? I currently only run new Nissa, but they are all solid cards.

Works great with creature combo cards. IE cast Kiki-jiki, find pestermite. Cast kitchen finks, find melira etc.

Definitely testing, but I don't expect it to stick.

This card will be SO much better if we get a bunch of cubeable mutate creatures.

My fear is that the fail case is quite bad. But the effect is super powerful if you can guarntee a creature.

It's kind of interesting to me. My gut tells me no... but the combination of cheap cycling, easy reanimation target, giving fat creatures trample and a natural order option is something to think about.

Definitely the best cycler to cheat into play we've seen.
