GloriousGoose posted a message on EDH Banned CardsHe doesn't sound like a very good friend. He kind of sounds like a dick, actually. If he doesn't respect the banlist or your opinion there's not much you can do other than proxy a Vintage Storm combo list and say you don't respect the deck construction rules.Posted in: Commander (EDH) -

Placeholder lands.
(Islands are better, as they are the superior basic land type) -

Energy is shaping up to be a great mechanic.
Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite. -

LimDul945 posted a message on The official Type 4 Primer!!! New poll 5/13/15!~Posted in: Homebrew and Variant FormatsQuote from LucasBear »Small update. After doing some intense play testing I have found that the games tend to be less volatile if both players can agree to a higher starting life total. For purposes of the primer I'm going to make a heavy suggestion of 30 life, as that total made the game interesting enough to where things could get done; but life totals weren't so high that the game distended into boredom or agony. I've also been doing some research into lowering the counterspell total in my stack, so for those of you who are wanting to use my stack as a good starting point, keep that in mind.
One final rule that i've been considering adding to the suggested play rules is that if a person would draw a card while they have no cards in their library they can either choose to concede or take cumulative damage for each card they would draw instead. For example, if someone drew their last card in their library no damage would be taken, if someone cast Ancestral Recall targeting that person then they would take a cumulative point of damage for each drawn card (1+2+3) for a total of six damage. They next time they would draw a card they would still take cumulative damage. I'll think of a more appropriate way to word this later, if I decide that this rule is something that needs to be implemented.
Okay, this is getting a bit worrisome... You're diverging further and further from what the actual format is, and writing it as "gospel". I realize that these changes you are making are according to your personal preferences, but please keep them within a "House Rules" section and apart from the main description of the format. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Highlander has no such restrictions or limits, it is literally 100 different cards. Most people give a pass on Basics but the hardcore Highlanders only have exactly one copy of everything.

I'm just afraid of playing that or the Myrs and having them blown away. Or do people leave the dorks alone? At first I thought you were crazy for leaving your mana on a body but then I realized it's practically Eggs. You play mana and draw a card. I think the Atlas is way more interesting than the Myrs because when the Atlas dies all of those lands are still there.

I've been playing a variation of this deck in casual multiplayer games and... It isn't casual. :/

Instead of having my cardboard just sit here doing nothing, I'm going to take a bunch of cards out of my Type 4 and place them in decks. At the very least they'll do something then. Once people get to know me and want to try this 'Type 4', I guess I'll place the cards back in.

Linvala, the Preserver - Basic body, two mediocre abilities. Maybe worthwhile in a slower stack, I simply reviewed her because she's Legendary and in a P/T bracket that's acceptable for Type 4.
Deepfathom Skulker - This card is great! 4/4 unblockable that draws you cards but also makes all of your creatures unblockable and draws you cards. The only other "Ophidian" in the stack is Garza Zol, the Plague Queen and she's acceptable due to Flying evasion with Haste. The Skulker may not hit and draw immediately; however, you might have another creature swing for cards.
Dread Defiler - I want to put this in my stack but I'm afraid it might be too powerful. Other unlimited 'flings' have some sort of preventative measure but this one doesn't. Near the endgame, if you have a huge yard, you can probably win with just this resolving. Sure, has reliance but not too much. I am contemplating, as it is potentially 'worse' or 'better' than Knollspine Invocation and the like. If included, perhaps a slight amount of graveyard hate should be added to counteract, as it does use Sorcery Speed for the corpse slinging.
Remorseless Punishment - Discard 4 cards is pretty powerful, with the option of either losing life or creatures. Overall, I'm not sure I'd want to include it in my Type 4 because it would never do what's intended. If the cards in hand are worth discarding, life or creatures will be sacrificed. Otherwise I can see someone happily deciding to back to topdeck mode.
Mindmelter - Very powerful control card but I don't know if it is fun. Tempting to add.
1 Mirrorpool
1 Sphinx of the Final Word
1 Endbringer
1 Deepfathom Skulker

Grasp of Fate - Normally, I'm not a fan of the new "Nightmare Mechanic" but this might be an exception. It hits any nonland permanent, multiple opponents and in a form of an Enchantment. Normally this effect is on a creature which is easy to get rid of. This is an Enchantment, hard to hit and so a much better permanent to be.
Kalemne's Captain - 5/5 Vigilance creature is within a certain punching weight that I think is solid enough. The ability to Exile Enchantments and Artifacts is amazing, plus it's then an 8/8. I've been waiting for a generic board up everything that isn't a creature for a while and I find that I can't really justify putting them on Instants, but the Captain is an 8/8 even if there's nothing else to do. That's worth, right there.
Æthersnatch - This is strictly superior to Gather Specimens and Commandeer so it should go right on in.
Broodbirth Viper - As much as I want this to be viable, I find that the 3/3 body is just too small. Though it would be amazing to have something that draws 3 cards a turn but that's magical Christmasland.
Gigantoplasm - This should flat out replace any generic Clone.
Illusionary Ambusher - I'm very conflicted with this card. I think this has
Mirror Match - This could potentially be incredibly backbreaking reversal. You have creatures that match them exactly, so it's a form of kill spell but the best part is the ETBs to abuse from opponents. I'm not sure if to include but it's very interesting.
Mystic Confluence - This is superior to Jace's Ingenuity because you can either draw cards or bounce. Moduality is power.
Synthetic Destiny - Has the problem of 'Reliance' where you need creatures out plus it's durdley. There's no control over what you'll bring out, even if it is multiple creatures. Perfect for a 'Chaos Stack' but not for me.
Banshee of the Dread Choir - A 4/4 with Discard and Myriad. Again, I want to love but ehhh... Not sure if it can pull it off.
Deadly Tempest - A wrath that does damage, amazing. Also can completely knock out someone who is packing Infinite Creatures. Wraths are equalizers so you'll only play them when behind, this means the pain will be minimal.
Fiery Confluence - Doesn't do enough damage to creatures, though while interesting for enemy damage and Artifact destruction but it's Sorcery Speed and therefore not useful.
Meteor Blast - Inferno has the ability to say "I had to do the damage to everybody equally, I'm sorry." Meteor Blast initally looks like it could do 'fair damage' to all enemies but because you can choose to deal damage to them or not, they'll just see you as an annoyance or enemy. Furthermore, it doesn't do enough damage to most creatures.
Rite of the Raging Storm - I think it could be very interesting in a lower powered stack; however, the not forced attack clause doesn't make people attack. I do think it would make interesting political situations.
Warchief Giant - Sadly, this might be the most interesting Myriad creature because of the immediate application of it's Myriad ability. The 5/3 nature isn't a large enough threat to warrant it, unfortunately.
Anya, Merciless Angel - There's not many cases were people are 10 or less life. They're either fine or dead. After all, aggro creatures are in in the 7+ power territory.
Arjun, the Shifting Flame - This just durdles. Not worth.
Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas - Kalemne can quickly grow to very large proportions, 6 damage on first swing but potentially more if you have a few Flash creatures. Most creatures in the stack easily count as the 5 CMC. I'm conflicted over whether to include him or not, he's pretty interesting. Though I am loathe to include this Experience mechanic because it's another thing to keep track of which may or may not matter, such as if he gets Res'd or not. That's what pushes my decision to not include him.
Kaseto, Orochi Archmage - He turns himself into an infinite power unblockable creature. While he originally looks dinky, he's as good as any other infinite power creature. He's more fair in a lot of ways, which is to say, he's still very powerful.
Blade of Selves - Equipment is the pure definition of Reliance; however, occasionally they'll be so stupid broken they need to be included. Having many creatures with ETB triggers can be truly abusive with multiple triggers.
Sandstone Oracle - I'm conflicted whether to include this. It's an equalizer but involves hoops. If you're behind, you can't afford hoops.
Here's my picks for Commander 2015:
1 Æthersnatch
1 Gigantoplasm
1 Mystic Confluence
1 Deadly Tempest

If you want that effect, I would say to use Silverglade Elemental or Seedguide Ash. Fetch you Forests and on more relevant bodies.
Also, Deadwood Treefolk is good way to have some recursion. A singleton Genesis probably wouldn't hurt either, even if you have no way to dump into your yard.
Those Treefolk would justify Bosk Banneret to some extent, but I don't think it passes the Turn 8 test. It shaves off one mana of your guys, but you've already got plenty of ways to fetch forests. I think more draw would be beneficial, such as the Masked Admirers.
Didn't know Strata Scythe is a thing. That's what you should go with, Blachwood Armor is fine 1v1 or if you've got some Enchantment-theme but I think you're going more Trees and Treefolk.
