  • posted a message on Student's term paper given failing grade for discussing God
    Quote from Mr. Anus »
This is a challenge issued by the teacher to test the abilities of the student, not a restiction on the student's rights. The assignment in no way prohibited the student from worshipping their god. It is possible to write the paper without using the word "God", and would improve the quality of the paper by eliminating bias as well as redundency. The student's taking offense to this is the fault of the student, not of the teacher. The student chose to be offended, just like she chose to take the class, just like she chose to do the assignment incorrectly, and just like she chose to be a Christian. The only choice the teacher made was to put a benign restriction on the assignment to improve the quality of the work produced.

Never said the rules prohibited her from worshipping her god.

And the topic was religion in the government (basically). How can you not use the "g" word when all of our money has "God" on it? How can you not use the "g" word when the supreme court recently just said that sometimes it's ok to have the ten commandments and sometime's it isn't ok?

No other religion is as involved in the US Government as Christianity. Because of that, it is almost impossible to do that topic without mentioning "God" at all. I can hardly believe the restriction was "benign" when the only religion that's really causing problems within non-religious communities within the government is Christianity.

Ok, let me start off by saying two things before I go into my rant.

    I'm a politically conservative, bi-sexual, atheist person.

I think the statement of "no talking about the 'big G god'" sounds like a poor attempt to urbanize religion. "OG Jesus in the place! Don't backtalk or a gun is in your face!"

    Ok onto the rant.

Now, I don't think this article or debate is about religion at all. I think this article demonstrates in how political correctness is just flat out dumb. I'm about to enter my fourth year of college, and just because the slim possibility of mentioning "God" in a paper may offend someone (which is the only reason I can see the teacher making that rule [and I can't think of any non christian person who would gasp at hearing the word "God" ("OH NO! YOU SAID GOD! I NEED TO GOUGE MY EYES OUT WITH A DULL RUSTY WOODEN SPOON!")]) shouldn't stop the student from writing what they believe. That's what the first ammendment allows. Take this example. Let's say I'm a stupid racist redneck hilljack and I somehow got out of the appalachians and got into college (this is not a stab at people of southern decent. Half of my family is from the southeast. It's just those people that are scary... you know... Deliverance scary). Let's say in my English class I decided to write a paper entitled "These are the 101 reasons why everyone should hate Gays, Blacks, Mexicans, Jews, and Chinese People". Now taking english classes, a prof has absolutely no right and just failing me right there. They are forced to listen to my entire rant and see if I have an argument that holds up. If the arguments are completely stupid like "Don't like gays because they are gay." and "Don't like Jews because they don't believe in Jesus", then yes fail me. However, if I somehow create a compelling argument (I can't think of how to do that at all with that topic. I'm a master bull****ter and I can't for some reason get this one to work ) then you are required to grade me based on my arguments and not personal views. My personal views could be offending everyone that ever read it, however the point of a paper is to look at the persons ability to create a statement. The point is not to judge a person's personal views. If that was the case everyone should be failing papers left and right because those are YOU'RE PERSONAL VIEWS ON THE TOPIC AT HAND! If they weren't, what was the purpose of writing the paper in the first place if it wasn't a scientific analysis?

    Ok, I'm done.

    Greetings SR.

Some of you may not know or remember me, but I used to be friends with this clan back on news. (It may have been 2 years ago or something.) This clan was actually one of the two clans I was "actually" friends with (the other being forum pirates).

Anyways, I recently resigned up and I wanted to befriend this clan. The only person that may remember me here is MD, but a start is a start I guess.
