In all zones but the battlefield the asterik is zero because the creature doesn't have that ability anywehre else. I'd imagine if they didn't have that ability while on the battlefield it'd default to 0 there too.
Is there a better way to work my sideboard to get an advantage against decks that go big early? I've had this deck both outlast others and win early, even surviving 3 Through the Breached Emrakuls and 1 hardcasted in a single game. Decks that get mana quick though are hard to shut down, especially Green and Blue tron decks that can consistently hardcast Eldrazi. 3 Blood Moon doesn't solve the problem. Ideas I've tossed around so far are Cauldron Haze, *** and Act of Treason but none seem to fit the bill for my problem- any ideas?
I looked through all of them before for ideas but there are a lot of really good ones, so I'd say its up to personal tastes. If you were gonna do a block I know there already is a finished block here: http://www.mtgacademyhub.com/
Biggest problem is it's a couple years old now
If you wait though I think Archester will be an awesome set to play, and if you don't wait you could even help out playtesting commons.
Zombies in red feels odd, have to say my favorite tribe is either spirits or rebels (but I have little to go off of)
I think you should post a couple examples of each tribe or theme. Each bump isn't really adding anything to bring people in. I know I'd be more interested if I saw more proof of concept.
I'd try Banefire and 99 mountains just for fun, anyways I think this would be really cool to try even as any permanent. Maybe we should all throw together decks and see just how broken the format is over cockatrice? Vintage banlist?
I don't want to go too high on the curve like with Tooth and Nail, but Fauna Shaman is a really good idea I haven't thought of. I won't have a chance tonight, but tomorrow I'll try Chameleon Colossus, Great Sable Stag and Fauna Shaman at the very least and I'll look into Garruk. Thanks!
The general strategy is to win with either Painter's Servant (naming blue) and Faerie Swarm or Scion of Oona and a number of Faeries. Thanks to the nature of Faeries I do most of my playing on my opponent's turn.
This deck is part of my on-going attempt to give Painter's Servant a home in modern. One of the pratfalls I've realized in every decklist is that Painter's Servant is hard to find in Modern, my cheapest tutors are Muddle the Mixture and Fabricate. With that in mind the deck would have to function without the painter. This should be obvious, but it somehow didn't become apparent to me until after multiple builds requiring the field be painted.
This original deck was still Blue-Green, but it played in an attempt to ramp up to Oona, Queen of the Fae. Problem was the deck would win without Oona or (more frequently) lose without Oona, she was flashy to the point of being a non-factor. Two superstars did emerge however having great synergy with everything being painted blue, Scryb Ranger and Faerie Swarm.
Scryb Ranger becomes an absurdly good blocker when Painter's Servant hits the field, his last ability is handy late game when I have enough lands and can afford to untap him.
Faerie Swarm is my strongest finisher and, if out at the same time is Painter, usually falls somewhere between 9/8 and 13/13.
Muddle the Mixture: Usually I grab Painters first or hold on until I can actually counter a sorcery or instant. Otherwise, I have grabbed Spellstutter Sprites and Scryb Rangers.
I could describe any other choice in more detail if asked, my question to you is how can I make this better equipped to handle aggressive decks? My manabase is surprisingly sturdy for 20 lands and 4 birds so a splash could potentially work if needed, I'm just not sure what would be removed if that's the case. I don't know how many people here may have played against this on Cockatrice (Headley or LavaLaxer), or if anybody would like to, but I would especially appreciate those opinions.
It's not tier one, but I find it to be quite playable and a contender in a number of matches. In addition it's been a blast to pilot. So any critiques? Suggestions? It's a very Johnny request of me but I'd prefer to not lose Painter's Servant, anything else could go.
Instead of making things convoluted with extra cards I figure Eevee could just be a tutor for a creature type only the evolutions have.
I don't like the type part, but Eevee as a tutor is a cool idea. I think maybe we should specifically name Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon on the card instead and then erreta Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon and Leafon if it ever comes to that (or even put them on there to no effect now)
Eevee 3
Creature - Normal Pokemon 4, Sacrifice Eevee: Search your library for a creature named Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon or Leafon and put it onto the battlefield tapped. You may only play this ability as a sorcery.

What if Pokemon was a class and each element was a creature type? I'll use it for mine as an example. Also not sure if evolution stones are regular artifacts, equipment or whatever. You can adjust my eevee accordingly (if you like it to begin with)

Vanilla 4/2's have a CMC of 4, and that's with a color restriction. Some 4/2's are still 4 with abilities (even First Strike, Fire-Field Ogre) but that's again with a color restriction to cast (and less colors to take advantage of as a potential general, disregarding that most aren't legendary)
Considering this is a lord that also has First Strike and Haste, and a crazy powerful tap ability (not sure how hard it is to pull off, but I'd imagine in a good EDH deck it's relatively easy) I'd feel more comfortable with this a 6 or 7. Definitely Legendary though, I think the design outside of costing is solid.
Stall: Not sure about this or how it'd play, no comment. Void's Pull: Seems too expensive with doom blade and go for the throat at 1B and dismember at 1BB (Or more commonly, 1 and two life)
I know it's recurring but the buyback cost is a permanent, considering you can't target the creature this could be 1BB or even 1B even if it does get around indestructibility, protection and hexproof. Unliving Spark: I like this card in both theme and application, perfect how it is in my opinion. Vergrinch: Name's a little weird to say for me, but so are plenty of other cards. Touch of Eternity: Love the name, very flavorful. Comparable to darksteel plate. Might be better lowered 1 because of the more stringent mana restrictions, but considering it is subject to less hate and can recur itself I'd say it's good where it is unless testing suggests otherwise.
I'm not sure how the type-line works here. Is it the dex entry? breeding group? element type? Regardless here are my designs.
