This is all PopeJP's fault. I know he's been futzing with the idea of a blue-based Living End shell for the better part of a year.
Kinda want to stuff a few Spiketail Drakelings in there and see what happens.
Funny, I was working on something similar... and yes Glassdust Hulk was in there. My biggest issue was that Glassdust Hulk doesn't do anything relevant.
What I found is that we really need a Pillar of Paruns that can allow us to cycle creatures as well as casting spells.
I don't understand why he didn't have Jhessian Zombies in there.
Burn is now running Eidolon of the Great Revel several times now I have had to Supreme Verdict just one creature with a fist full of Fogs just to save my life total.
So I played in gameday today with Maze's End. Lost in top 8 against Naya Hexproof when I punted and tapped the wrong land the turn before I was going to win and then had to mull to five in game two.
Dictate of Kruphix is insane! I played three and it should have been four. I also put Notion Thief in the side for Control and it was great. Dictates and Thiefs make me happy.
I have always liked Swan Song it is really great against RDWs, and control.
With the printing of Dictate of Kruphix I have found new faith in this deck. I want to start testing with it soon and see how it goes.
While I am here I thought I would share some fun stuff I have done with my lands.
White border everything...you're a soulless monster sir, those are positively hideous lol
You Sir mistake me for some commoner! My lands are bordered with only the finest silver. Painstakingly excavated from the rich darkness that boarders these lands. (Literally)
When you remove the ink from most magic cards it will leave the foil. So my boarders are a "Shiny Silvery Blur".
My only white boarders are 4th Edition French Fogs.
I went 3-3 at a tournament with 42 people yesterday using Alan Villamayor's mainboard list. This was my first ever legacy tournament.
Round 1: 2 - 1 vs Combo Elves
Round 2: 1 - 2 vs Shardless BUG
Round 3: 1 - 2 vs UWR Delver
Round 4: 2 - 0 Storm
Round 5: 2 - 0 Show and Tell
Round 6: 0 - 2 Show and Tell.
I lost round 2 to hardcounter hate. The other two losses were mostly misplays. All in all, good fun was had. I'm thinking about switching the Chancellors of the Annex with LEDs for a second discard outlet, making a t2 win more likely.
If your going to play LEDs why don't you just play LED Dredge?
Honestly, I don't think the Pod itself is an issue. a deck with great creatures and awesome tutoring is completely fair, i see no problem. but that doesn't mean I think the whole deck is fine. infinite creatures is whatever, but infinite life is something most decks cannot deal with. I think the deck is fine right now, the unfair strategy does not even seem to see the most use, but i would keep an eye on Finks. Wizards is definitely too eager to solve minor issues with bans, stop the truly unfair, peerless decks, unban the rest and let us fix it. If Mindsculptor, Mystic, Dark Depths, Artifact lands, and the Storm stuff came off, would one deck really be oppresively dominant? which dreaded deck is really the best and why bother with the rest. Depths, Cawblade, Storm, and Affinity cannot all be unbeatable
No deck would be dominant, but the turn 4 rule would be shattered and aggro decks other than Affinity would be even more dead than they are now.
I would like to see Dread Return come off the banned list. I think it would open up a new generation of Dredge Reanimator style decks. Modern lacks many of the key cards that Legacy Dredge uses to become the degenerate power house. Without cards like Ichorid, Careful Study, Breakthrough, Lion's Eye Diamond, Cephalid Coliseum, and not to forget one of the best card Dredge has ever seen, Cabal Therapy Dredge isn't a deck.
I think opening up Dread Return to the Modern format could be very interesting without being overpowering.
Thoughts?
It breaks the turn 4 rule. It can't be unbanned.
How? And Goryo's Vengeance breaks the turn 4 rule.
Because a 2/4 isn't much of a beater.
I posted awhile back about trying something like this, but the mana base was horrid and I will be honest. This mana base looks kinda iffy to me too.
