Hi everyone. I will play a hard tournament in two months (GP) and im looking for a good modern deck to play. I had played control in modern for years, and now i dont think that play control is a good option, because the metagame is very open and there are a lot of differents decks to face. On the other hand, i dont like the recent UW control decks with planeswalkers and URx variants are very poor now.

Im thinking to play Eldrazi and taxes or mono white taxes. I have enought time to play and test hard the archetype.
Masters of the deck, what do you think about this deck right now in the meta?. I think is versatile and flexible, and it´s a good midrange deck. But I need opinions about it.

    Thanks for reeding!

It is pretty hard to say what is good right now with Modern Horizons being out on MTGO for only a few days. Prior to this though generally B/W Eldrazi and taxes has been the way to go (see link below of one of the forum goers here's list from a competitive league.

    https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=22190&d=350208&f=MO]

With giver of runes Mono white eldrazi and taxes may be the way to go. The only list I have seen so far is from the vid linked below. Humans or spirits may just be better though, especially if you prefer those play styles.

Silent clearing doesn't need to replace a colorless source though. It can replace a plains or a concealed courtyard. I would test it both ways but start with 4 and work my way down to find the right number.

I think you want to full 4 silent clearing. As for thalia you could make a meta call for what is more important, her or arbiter? I would consider getting the forth thalia by going to 3 displacers. A less good option would be go down 1 TKS/sculler if you really want the 4th displacer. I don't play BW but I assume you don't need the full 8 of these effects. The math on 7 vs 8 to get the consistency you want must be close but not sure which discard creature would be better to cut.

    We've been waiting for you.

A shame she can't protect herself like mother of runes but the benefit of protecting your others against colorless as well is sweet. Not sure what comes out though. I am not convinced we can afford to give up thraben inspector. Hopefully we will get recruiter of the guard or the like that you can search your entire library and not just a few deep like the bugler. Then the inspector can be ditched.

Hey everyone, it's been a bit since I last posted. I saw an article title a week or so ago on scg about ugin's conjurant and celestial kirin doing an armageddon impression. I was wondering if anyone had played around with that? I didn't look at proposed decklists in the article because it does not seem worth the effort for a result that won't always win.

It seems super sweet but like you said not worth the effort. I do hope to see in on an MTGGoldfish against the odds some day though.

With no tutoring or card draw there is not a good enough way to cast it reliably while being ahead on board.

    4x Militia Bugler
    4x Eldritch Evolution

EDIT: oh what Kirin is a 3/3?

Even if Kirin could be grabbed by bugler that is not enough. Someone a while back did a spread sheet and posted it and the chance of hitting the card you want is really low with bugler. Eldritch evolution is also really bad in any deck that plays Thalia

I'm planning to build a second modern deck and want to ask your opinion. I currently play Ad Nauseam

Which do you think will be the more powerful deck long term: U/W Spirits or B/W Eldrazi and Taxes?

Bant spirits looks really strong, but its way out of my budget at the moment. I don't know anything about G/W Eldrazi and Taxes, but I would definitely consider it as well as long as it isn't too expensive. I'm leaning towards B/W Eldrazi because of the play style and price, but some people at my LGS don't think it's a good choice. Thanks!

What version of DnT you should play depends on your Meta. B/W has more removal and more disruption but can have mana issues. Mono White has more land destruction and almost no mana problems and is the cheapest option. G/W is the most expensive but is really versatile with the sideboard options and the new knight of autumn. G/W also has less mana issues then B/W due to noble hierarch. Some prominent DnT players are really favoring G/W these days (like PleasentKenobi).

On MTGO all the decks are fairly cheap $100-250 (even spirits is only like $250). I would test them on there or use a friends account if you can to try them out before spending up to a grand to buy spirits in paper or even just the $400 for Mono White. You can also just sell the MTGO decks back when you are done for a fairly decent percent of what you paid.

What do people think of Tithe Taker?

It is bad. Being on your turn only makes it pretty much unplayable for DnT. It may tax their removal a little bit (but they can just do it on their own turn) but it will not really stop anyone from "going off" like Thalia will.

Hello everyone, new to playing Death and Taxes so I am here for some recommendations for sideboard & mainboard. Here is what I have so far:

I've thought about adding Thraben Inspector for being a 1 drop with added value. I've also told that adding Smuggler's Copter to the deck will be helpful but I'm unsure. What about Dryad Militant, Judge's Familiar as well? Sideboard so far is the most difficult for constructing. Any recommendations will be much appreciated!

Smuggler's copter and thraben inspectorare just amazing, especially together since inspector can crew copter. You definitely need a T1 creature to go with vial and typically inspector is the choice, plus the clue is so worth while. DnT has so little card draw and inspector can be both your T1 and T2 play with the clue. Even better you can vial it in on T2 and immediately crack the clue taking full advantage of your mana. Dryad Militant's ability isn't relevant or effective enough in a lot of match ups. Judge's Familiar can be good but DnT has trouble capitalizing on the tempo advantage making it less worth while. Copter also lets you smooth out draws and is a great clock.

For the side board I believe most people are on 3 rest in peace, 3 stony silence and then usually some stuff to help against burn, tron and storm. Then usually extra single target removal and or a couple of board wipes. Planeswalkers are good in grindy or control match ups but not good against most of the fast unfair decks.

Could I get some opinions/advice for my revamped mono-white build and a BW Eldrazi build I have planned? Thanks tax fam~

I don't have a lot of experience with BW EnT but it looks like a pretty standard list and should do just fine.

For the Mono White list I believe that most people started running phyrexian revoker again, especially in bugler lists. Not knowing your meta I would suggest coming down 1 each of resto and selfless spirit to make room for a revoker and 3rd bugler. I also personally never found eiganjo castle worth it and would always rather have a different utility land like shefet dunes, another canopy or field of ruin.

Well one of the best parts of DnT is that you can change out almost anything as it is a meta deck. The questions are always what is the meta and what is good against it. If your local meta is a little slower and has lots of ETB then your list may be good. However I (and I think most of us on the forum) never advocate cutting flicker wisp, it is your best card.

    Thanks!

I think I will start with the Mono-W list like you said.

EDIT: BTW, who are the best streamers/youtubers to watch in order to learn more about the deck?

Our own fellow posters deathandcatmix and spiderspace are the only ones I know that stream a lot of DnT (linked below). You can also find some good articles (and older videos) as well if you do some searches on tcgplayer, star city games and channel fireball.

    Hello guys!

I've been researching about Death and Taxes for a while and noticed there is a lot of sub-archetypes within D&T.

My first idea was to build the mono-white version, without the eldrazi and stuff, but the variety eludes me.

What are the best sub-archetypes and which one should I try to build?

    Thanks in advance!

A very basic run down would be...

Mono white - more blinking, more land destruction, usually more flyers and most consistent mana base. It can also be played as mono white E&T either with just eldrazi displacer or full on TKS and reality smasher. There is also the new mono white death and staxes builds with chalice of the void (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1189552#paper). Although the staxes builds are their own thread.

BW - more disruption (tidehollow sculler), more removal, more card advantage (bob) and worse mana. Also BW E&T with TKS, strangler and smahser.

GW - more creatures + greens hate creatuers (hierarch, voice of resurgence, gaddock and knight of the reliquary) and collected company and worse mana (but second best I think due to hierarch)

UW - add in spirits to make a tempo deck or trophy mage to abuse crucible of worlds and use swords more consistently but all with worse mana

RW - more betters, lightning bolt and reds hate creatures (harsh mentor, dire fleet daredevil, pia and kiran and most of all magus of the moon). and also worse mana.

And of course we are all testing militia bugler in a wide verity of these as well. (I just tested it in a standard mono white list, not even changing around for fiend hunters or anything and was really impressed)

Mono white is the easiest to get started with and learn the lines of play. It is also the most consistent mana. Since we don't play any fetch lands sometimes in the splashes you just get screwed by your colors. then you can either go to the one that suits you or your meta best. BW E&T usually posts the best results lately since there is so much Humans and combo around.

However, the most important thing about Bugler isn't that he simply replaces himself like a Matter Reshaper or something; the important thing is that he digs like a beast for what you want. If you're on a solid opener like T1 Vial T2 Thalia and your opponent kills Thalia because they really want to combo off later, then T3 Bugler is going to dig into a replacement Thalia for you to vial-in about 23% of the time.

This is definitely the part that makes me think it won't be good enough but as you said it also makes playing smaller numbers of cards (1-2 copies) far more worth while. That might be what make Bugler good. Right now I don't play less then 3 copies of anything as it is way to inconsistent. I picked up my play set last night but wont be able to test it myself for a while. So am eager to here how testing goes for everyone else.

    Militia Bugler Math

    GoogleDoc: Here

Hey All! I know how much you nerds love seeing some data on the thread... Teach
...So here's a hit-percentage table I made for everyone's favorite new card: Militia Bugler. Take a look, leave a like, and DM me here on mtgSalvation if you find any mistakes or have any ideas for improvements.

Great job on the spread sheet. So on T3 you would have about a 75-85% chance to hit with the standard mono white 14-18 hits (14 assumes you have a couple hits in hand when you cast it). My problem with it is still that the card just goes in your hand and bugler doesn't search, only digs 4 deep. I am optimistically skeptical given those restrictions but the hit rates are higher then I expected. I am also still not sure what is best to cut although I see deathandcatmix as I list going https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1181680#online.
