I am so glad most of good cantrips are either banned, or not playable in Modern. Would have been nasty to see this card in a tempo shell alongside Delver.
Boom//Bust Jund really took off only because thanks to BBE.
However, with BBE banned? Boom//Bust just became another land hate card. For sure, there are tricks you can pull off with Fetch Lands so that it won't be symmetrical. Still, every time I play around with the card, and more than half of the time I wish I had some other answer, or removal in my hand.
Summoning Trap can be helpful in right deck. I do remember losing several times against rogue decks packing few Summoning Traps into huge creatures that I just couldn't deal with at turn 2 or 3.
I am afraid that you will always have difficult time against agro decks with UW colour.
I may try any number of combination between Kitchen Finks, Blade Splicer, and Wall of Omens. Then try to stabilize the board with Restoration Angel.
Then there are usual pillow fort options including Ensnaring Bridge, and Ghostly Prison.
But better option is just splash red. You don't have to comprise much to dip into another colour but I have no idea what kind of UW deck you are playing as so I cannot comment much farther. Good luck.
I had a fortune to obtain 4 copies of VoR and tried swapping out 2~4 copies in place of Goyf. And it's a really close call for me. I love hating out instant speed removals/counters by restricting them to sorcery, and token generated from it was always nice with potential to get bigger - packing close to 30 creature counts, it always usually is 3/3 or 4/4. But Goyf is such a powerhouse. At the end of day, VoR will just remain a 2/2 and proves to be no immediate threat on board.
I'm currently running 2 VoR/2 Goyf split. Anyone else had much chance to playtest VoR yet?
Living End seems to be doing really well on MTGO right now. Any concerns Gifts is going to get sideways nerfed when people start throwing in more graveyard hate for Living End?
Not really. Gifts has tools to deal with GY hate cards. Also, reanimating fatties is just one of many ways to win with Gifts. I never really had a trouble with graveyard hate cards with this deck - just annoyance.
I don't understand why we are comparing two completely different creatures. Can Goyf replace Geist in decks that use it? And vice versa? Different decks call for different creatures.
I rarely play turn 2, or turn 3 Liliana no matter how tempted I would be against UWR.
Some instances I would play Liliana as early as possible would include
1) opponent mulled, or short on cards,
2) used burn on my creature previously, or tapped out lands to make a play,
3) land screwed,
4) I have another copy of Liliana in hand.

I personally like to have a very late game option such as Batterskull but that is my personal preference.

Both actually.
I am never too unhappy to see him in my starting hand. Playing him on turn 2, and leading up with Pod on turn 3 is powerful.
I played around with VoR for a bit, and it is absolutely nuts. So many times it just takes the game over by itself.
