Kira glass spinner with goyf has been the cards that has been stealing games for me against both zoo and new horizons. Some people have considered kira glass for mono blue merfolks for a long time. However, I think running kira glass with tarmogoyf can give you more of the same leverage against other aggro decks in the format.
As you can tell the sideboard is meant for mostly zoo as I think zoo will be on the constant rise in legacy. Although, I'd recommend playing something else if you expect to play zoo alot of the time.
I do need to test the New horizons and zoo matchups more with my list but so far the list has been fairly promising.
I went undefeated in the swiss of 4 rounds while drawing in round 4 to the top 4. Then the top 4 players decided to split 4 packs each which was good since it was getting pretty late. Me and my opponent decided to play for 4th/3rd for fun though and I won 2-0 against his green deck which was actually quite fast and it was strong. I won against one of the top players in my area that plays several T2 decks that are viable for Pro tour circuits and drafts a ton. I didn't really wanted to be a jerk so I agreed to do the top 4 split among the other three players.
My deck worked pretty well. I felt it was one of the best decks there. It could punish players that can't draw what they need to win. Also, the most broken cards in my deck were Raid Bombardment, Magmaw and Emrakul's Hatcher. Hatcher enabled me to cloud the ground with a bunch of tokens so I can be on the defensive and also on the offensive. I shouldn't of passed on the other Magmaw but it's alright. Magmaw was my most valueble card since he can do a few points of damage each turn especially when I have tokens in play.
Overall, I had a blast playing and I was pretty happy with my deck.
Hi everyone, I went to a prerelease of worldwake last weekend. There were about 35 players at the event which is pretty good for this small town I live in.
My friend pretty much paid for me and so only got to keep the packs that I won which is still pretty good. I got 20 dollars worth of packs.
I decided to play UB persecutor control because I cracked open an abyssal persecutor, 3 into the roils, and a bunch of other good blue and black cards.
I lost the first round but I ended up winning my next six rounds to make top 4. It's a shame that I don't really remember my deck by heart and that I didn't win. Oh well, there is always next time.
I wish I could of gone to the Release that's going on right now but oh well it's cool.
Hi everyone, a couple of months ago I participated in a magic league Legacy trial with 42 players. Magic league overall is pretty competitive for any Magic format. At least in my honest opinion anyway.
I was playing Vial Mono Red Goblins and I end up winning the whole tournament.
Here is what I played against.
Round 1: Survival BGW Rock- Played by one of the top rating players in Legacy on there. 2-0
Round 2: GW Enchantress-Could of been a bad matchup for me. 2-0
Round 3: Mono Blue Merfolks. Would of been intense since he played with multiple umezawa's jitte. 2-0
Round 4: Ugr Countertop. I was actually surprised I won this because pyroclasm and blue blasts could of been a beating on me. 2-1
Round 5: Bye. I was surprised to get a bye but it's cool.
Round 6: RGb Aggro Loam 2-0. Would of been a pretty rough matchup for me but glad I was able to pull it through in two games.
Overall, the tournament was fun and it was good to have some solid experience. It was a pretty competitive tournament with players that know how to play well.
I definitely like the draw package, control, and countermagic suites for this deck. I think it's well balanced and since it's casual I usually just like to sit back disrupting my opponent then drop something big.
I threw this deck together right around when GP Chicago was taking place. The deck was testing well against merfolks, the countertop mirror, Ichorid, and even against zoo.
The deck also does well against randomness because of shackles, sowers, and the aforementioned counterbalance.
A couple of months later, I looked back at the decklists that made day 2 at GP Chicago and stumble cross a build that was quite similiar to mine.
The deck list above was piloted by Robbie Cordell to a 60th place finish out of 1200+ players at GP Chicago and his place awarded him with 200 dollars.
Now for some matchup Analysis comparisons:
I could see both lists doing good against AD Nauseam Tendrils but obviously Robbie's list would have a slight advantage postboard with 4 Mages in the board. However, Robbie's list does only play with 2 tops and 3 CB in the maindeck so it probably could be more of a toss up actually. Considering, AD Nauseam folds much more to countertop as opposed to Meddling mage.
Against blue control, I think both lists would do about the same preboard. But, postboard Robbie's list seems to have a bit more tools but then again I run red blasts; while Robbie does not run any.
Against Countertop, my list would probably have the distinct edge because of Krosan Grip, Engineered Explosives, and Red Blasts(board). I also play with one more daze and a playset of top and counterbalance.
Against Ichorid, Robbie's list might have more of an edge with one more trinketmage --> crypt/relic while he also plays meddling mage. However, Ichorid can easily play around meddling mage and relic of progenitus just seems more precise at dealing with Ichorid compared to tormod's crypt.
Anyway I had this deck for awhile now for casual play only. Its quite fun and reminds me of the good old super gro decks that were highly competitive in legacy of 2005. Anyway here is the list that I play on and off just for fun and kicks.
The deck can actually get quite explosive since it plays alot of cheap threats with cantrips. Also just about every spell supplements quirion dryads too.
Ponder, Portent, and brainstorm are all quite good in a deck like this. Cantrips always helps since the deck overall runs on a low count of lands. Also it has a pretty good late game with ajani goldmane which is also quite cool in the mid game as well. Also playing all of my threats a turn faster with werebear's activate mana ability helps too.
Well just a month ago i applied as a courtesy clerk at Vons which is a grocery store and its owned by Safeway which is a huge company. I have really enjoyed working at my new job everyday i work here and I am looking forward to moving up in position after a year of working as a courtesy clerk but sooner sounds nice as well. The atmosphere is pretty friendly and i like all of the people i work there with. Although one of these days I am planning on going back to the x-ray program and this time finishing the program just to prove to everyone in that field that I can do it.
Well I hope you all had a good week and see you all in the coffeehouse soon! *hugs and blows kisses*
Me and my best friend Matt have been discussing somewhat about me moving back to my home town which is in washington state to finish up the x-ray program back there. Once i worked for awhile and have more people skill experience of course will certainly help me in the long run. I might not be able to get back into the x-ray program here in Las vegas so I'll probably do my x-ray school in Richland if they provide a program over there though. Matt has told me that they have a program there so we will see how it goes. Well See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
